ON THE BARYON FRACTIONS IN CLUSTERS AND GROUPS OF GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: greenThe Astrophysical Journal, 2010
We present the baryon fractions of 2MASS groups and clusters as a function of cluster richness using total and gas masses measured from stacked ROSAT X-ray data and stellar masses estimated from the infrared galaxy catalogs. We detect X-ray emission even in the outskirts of clusters, beyond r_200 for richness classes with X-ray temperatures above 1 keV.

Missing Baryons, from Clusters to Groups of Galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2007
From clusters to groups of galaxies, the powerful bremsstrahlung radiation L_X emitted in X rays by the intracluster plasma is observed to decline sharply with lowering virial temperatures T (i.e., at shallower depths of the gravitational wells) after a steep local L_X-T correlation; this implies increasing scarcity of diffuse baryons relative to dark ...

The Large-Scale Environment of Groups & Clusters of Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2004
It appears that the dynamical status of clusters and groups of galaxies is related to the large-scale structure of the Universe. A few interesting trends have been established: (1) The Cluster Substructure - Alignment Connection, by which clusters show a strong correlation between their tendency to be aligned with their neighbors and their dynamical ...

Accretion of galaxy groups into galaxy clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We study the role of group infall in the assembly and dynamics of galaxy clusters in ΛCDM. We select 10 clusters with virial mass M200 ∼ 1014 $\rm M_\odot$ from the cosmological hydrodynamical simulation Illustris and follow their galaxies with stellar mass M⋆ ≥ 1.5 × 108 $\rm M_\odot$.

Properties of Fossil Groups of Galaxies

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
We review the formation and evolution of fossil groups and clusters from both the theoretical and the observational points of view. In the optical band, these systems are dominated by the light of the central galaxy.

The Effect of Splashback on Weak Lensing Mass Estimates of Galaxy Clusters and Groups

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics, 2023
The splashback radius of a dark matter halo, which corresponds to the first apocenter radius reached by infalling matter and substructures, has been detected around galaxy clusters using a multitude of observational methods, including weak lensing ...

The accretion of galaxies into groups and clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2009
We use the galaxy stellar mass and halo merger tree information from the semi-analytic model galaxy catalogue of Font et al. (2009) to examine the accretion of galaxies into a large sample of groups and clusters, covering a wide range in halo mass (10E12.9 to 10E15.3 Msun/h), and selected from each of four redshift epochs (z=0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5).

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Janus kinase 2 inhibition by pacritinib as potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Diagram of the activation of the profibrotic and procontractile Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/Ras homolog family member A/Rho‐kinase pathway and the inhibition of phosphorylated JAK2 by pacritinib to inhibit hepatic stellate cell activity. Abstract Background and Aims Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signaling is increased in human and experimental liver fibrosis with ...
