RG flows, cycles, and c-theorem folklore

open access: yes, 2011
Monotonic renormalization group flows of the "c" and "a" functions are often cited as reasons why cyclic or chaotic coupling trajectories cannot occur. It is argued here, based on simple examples, that this is not necessarily true. Simultaneous monotonic

On the Laplace transform of absolutely monotonic functions

open access: yes, 2016
We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on a function in order that it be the Laplace transform of an absolutely monotonic function.

The monotonicity of the permanent function

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1991
AbstractLet Ωn denote the set of all n × n doubly stochastic matrices and let Jn = [1/n]n × n. It is conjectured that, for any S ϵ Ωn, the permanent function is monotone increasing on the straight line segment from Jn to S, or equivalently that for any θ, 0 ⩽ θ ⩽ 1, per[(1 − θ)Jn + θS] ⩽ per S for all S ϵ Ωn.

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Piecewise rational quadratic interpolation to monotonic data [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
An explicit representation of a piecewise rational quadratic function is developed which produces a monotonic interpolant to given monotonic data. The explicit representation means that the piecewise monotonic interpolant is easily constructed and ...

On the inevitability of the consistency operator

open access: yes, 2019
We examine recursive monotonic functions on the Lindenbaum algebra of $\mathsf{EA}$. We prove that no such function sends every consistent $\varphi$ to a sentence with deductive strength strictly between $\varphi$ and $(\varphi\wedge\mathsf{Con}(\varphi))

Evaluating feature extraction reproducibility across image biomarker standardization initiative‐compliant radiomics platforms using a digital phantom

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to thoroughly analyze the reproducibility of radiomics feature extraction across three Image Biomarker Standardization Initiative (IBSI)‐compliant platforms using a digital phantom for benchmarking. It uncovers high consistency among common features while also pointing out the necessity for standardization ...

Rational quadratic spline interpolation to monotonic data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
In an earlier paper by Gregory & Delbourgo (1982), a piecewise rational quadratic function is developed which produces a monotonic interpolant to monotonic data. This interpolant gives visually pleasing curves and is of continuity class C1 .

Soft‐Layered Composites with Wrinkling‐Activated Multi‐Linear Elastic Behavior, Stress Mitigation, and Enhanced Strain Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, exciting new bi‐/multi‐linear elastic behavior of soft elastic composites that accompany the activation of wrinkling in the embedded interfacial layers is analyzed. The new features and performance of these composite materials, including dramatic enhancements in energy storage, can be tailored by the concentration of interfacial layers ...

Comments on Holographic Entanglement Entropy and RG Flows

open access: yes, 2012
Using holographic entanglement entropy for strip geometry, we construct a candidate for a c-function in arbitrary dimensions. For holographic theories dual to Einstein gravity, this c-function is shown to decrease monotonically along RG flows.
