Enhancing Form Stability: Shrink‐Resistant Hydrogels Made of Interpenetrating Networks of Recombinant Spider Silk and Collagen‐I

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A shrinkage‐resistant hydrogel is developed to confer post‐fabrication shape fidelity. The hydrogel, based on recombinant spider silk protein eADF4(C16)‐RGD and collagen‐I, exhibits tunable mechanical properties and shrink‐resistance in the presence of fibroblasts as well as muscle cells.

Use of guideline‐recommended medical therapy in patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease: from physician's prescriptions to patient's dispensations, medication adherence and persistence

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, Volume 24, Issue 11, Page 2185-2195, November 2022., 2022
Patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease are less likely to receive and persist on guideline‐recommended medical therapies. Aim Half of heart failure (HF) patients have chronic kidney disease (CKD) complicating their pharmacological management.

Partial renal coverage in EVAR causes unfavorable renal flow patterns in an infrarenal aneurysm model [PDF]

open access: yesJ.Vasc.Surg 67 (2018) 1585-1594, 2019
Objective: To achieve an optimal sealing zone during EVAR, the intended positioning of the proximal end of the endograft fabric should be as close as possible to the most caudal edge of the renal arteries. Some endografts exhibit a small offset between the radiopaque markers and the proximal fabric edge.

Screening and Identification of Novel DNA Aptamer for Targeted Delivery to Injured Podocytes in Glomerular Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops RLS‐2, a high‐affinity aptamer that specifically targets injured podocytes, making it a promising candidate for targeted drug delivery. In vitro, RLS‐2 shows stability, specificity, efficient siRNA delivery via AsiCs, and uptake by podocytes.

Unveiling Vulnerability and Inequality in Disrupted Access to Dialysis Centers During Urban Flooding [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Despite the criticality of dialysis facilities, limited knowledge exists regarding the extent and inequality of disrupted access caused by weather events. This study uses mobility data in the context of the 2017 Hurricane Harvey in Harris County to examine the impact of flooding on access to dialysis centers.

Icaritin Represses Autophagy to Promote Colorectal Cancer Cell Apoptosis and Sensitized Low‐Temperature Photothermal Therapy via Targeting HSP90‐TXNDC9 Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Icaritin demonstrates broad antitumor effects by inhibiting colorectal cancer (CRC) cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and causing cell cycle arrest. It induces apoptosis by repressing autophagic flux through disrupting HSP90‐TXNDC9 interactions.

Precise Estimation of Renal Vascular Dominant Regions Using Spatially Aware Fully Convolutional Networks, Tensor-Cut and Voronoi Diagrams [PDF]

open access: yesComputerized Medical Imaging and Graphics 77 (2019): 101642, 2019
This paper presents a new approach for precisely estimating the renal vascular dominant region using a Voronoi diagram. To provide computer-assisted diagnostics for the pre-surgical simulation of partial nephrectomy surgery, we must obtain information on the renal arteries and the renal vascular dominant regions.

Lactobacillus johnsonii Generates Cyclo(pro‐trp) and Promotes Intestinal Ca2+ Absorption to Alleviate CKD–SHPT

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mechanism map of how L.johnsonii generates cyclo(pro‐trp) to alleviate CKD–SHPT by promoting the expression of CaSR and TRPV4 in IECs, enhancing Ca2+ absorption, and negatively feedback inhibiting iPTH secretion. Abstract Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at a high risk of developing secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), which may ...

Mitigating Doxorubicin‐Induced Cardiotoxicity and Enhancing Anti‐Tumor Efficacy with a Metformin‐Integrated Self‐Assembled Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel self‐assembled nanomedicine (PMDDH) has been developed for the co‐delivery of doxorubicin and metformin, aiming to enhance the anti‐tumor efficacy of doxorubicin while alleviating its cardiotoxicity through the activation of cGAS‐STING and AMPK signaling pathways, respectively.
