Field dependent neutron diffraction study in Ni50Mn38Sb12 Heusler alloy [PDF]
In this paper, we present temperature and field dependent neutron diffraction (ND) study to unravel the structural and the magnetic properties in Ni50Mn38Sb12 Heusler system. This alloy shows martensitic transition from high temperature austenite cubic phase to low temperature martensite orthorhombic phase on cooling. At 3 K, the lattice parameters and

Effect of lattice mismatch-induced strains on coupled diffusive and displacive phase transformations
Materials which can undergo slow diffusive transformations as well as fast displacive transformations are studied using the phase-field method. The model captures the essential features of the time-temperature-transformation (TTT) diagrams, continuous ...

It is well known that stress-induced phase transformation in dual-phase steel leads to the degradation of bulk corrosion resistance properties. Predicting this behaviour in high carbon steel is imperative for designing this grade of steel for more ...

Characterisation of electric current treated austenite using misorientation angle distributions in martensite [PDF]
The angle misorientation distribution of martensite formed from electric current treated and non-treated austenite samples are studied using electron backscatter diffraction.

Recently, procedures for recovering austenite fcc crystallographic information from EBSD (Electron Back-Scatter Diffraction) data recorded from martensite or other bcc transformation products have been proposed. Due to the difficulties in revealing prior

Coherent phonon dynamics at the martensitic phase transition of Ni_2MnGa [PDF]
We use time-resolved optical reflectivity to study the laser stimulated dynamics in the magnetic shape memory alloy Ni_2MnGa. We observe two coherent optical phonons, at 1.2 THz in the martensite phase and at 0.7 THz in the pre-martensite phase, which we interpret as a zone-folded acoustic phonon and a heavily damped amplitudon respectively.

Modulated Martensite: Why it forms and why it deforms easily [PDF]
Diffusionless phase transitions are at the core of the multifunctionality of (magnetic) shape memory alloys, ferroelectrics and multiferroics. Giant strain effects under external fields are obtained in low symmetric modulated martensitic phases. We outline the origin of modulated phases, their connection with tetragonal martensite and consequences for ...

Work hardening behavior in a steel with multiple TRIP mechanisms
Transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) behavior was studied in steel with composition Fe-0.07C-2.85Si-15.3Mn-2.4Al-0.017N that exhibited two TRIP mechanisms.

Constitutive behaviour of the metastable stainless steel: Sandvik Nanoflex [PDF]
This article presents a model to describe the constitutive behaviour of corrosion-resistant Sandvik steel NanoflexTM [1] during metal forming and hardening. This material is characterised by different phenomena.
