Analysis of a conserved cellulase transcriptional regulator reveals inducer-independent production of cellulolytic enzymes in Neurospora crassa. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cellulose is recalcitrant to deconstruction to glucose for use in fermentation strategies for biofuels and chemicals derived from lignocellulose. In Neurospora crassa, the transcriptional regulator, CLR-2, is required for cellulolytic gene expression and

Spin-Labeled Neurospora Mitochondria

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1970
Spin-label studies were carried out on Neurospora mitochondria under in vivo and in vitro labeling conditions. A long-chained spin-labeled fatty acid was incorporated by Neurospora and was found in mitochondrial phospholipids. The molecular motion at various temperatures was different from that for the same spin label under in vitro labeling conditions.

Neurospora illuminates fungal photoreception [PDF]

open access: yesFungal Genetics and Biology, 2010
Light not only is indispensable as an energy source for life on earth but also serves as an essential environmental cue conveying the information of daily and seasonal time to organisms across different kingdoms. Although the molecular mechanisms underlying light responses are actively explored in various light-sensitive organisms, these studies are ...

Large-scale introgression shapes the evolution of the mating-type chromosomes of the filamentous ascomycete Neurospora tetrasperma. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2012
The significance of introgression as an evolutionary force shaping natural populations is well established, especially in animal and plant systems. However, the abundance and size of introgression tracts, and to what degree interspecific gene flow is the

Sustainable Nonenantioselective Production and Stereochemical Characterization of the Lignin-Derived Chiral Building Block 3-Carboxymuconolactone. [PDF]

open access: yesChemistryOpen
The first stereochemical characterization and sustainable nonenantioselective production of 3‐carboxymuconolactone (3CML), a lignin‐derived chiral building block, are presented. The developed process consistently proceeds at 28°C without requiring pressure or metal reagents and allows reducing the amount of solvent, offering clear advantages for ...

Biogenesis of mitochondrial ubiquinol [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The precursor proteins to the subunits of ubiquinol:cytochrome c reductase (cytochrome bc1 complex) of Neurospora crassa were synthesized in a reticulocyte lysate.

Biosynthesis of Mitochondrial Porin and Insertion into the Outer Mitochondrial Membrane of Neuruspora crassa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Mitochondrial porin, the major protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane is synthesized by free cytoplasmic polysomes. The apparent molecular weight of the porin synthesized in homologous or heterologous cell-free systems is the same as that of the ...

Chromatin accessibility profiling in Neurospora crassa reveals molecular features associated with accessible and inaccessible chromatin

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2021
Background Regulation of chromatin accessibility and transcription are tightly coordinated processes. Studies in yeast and higher eukaryotes have described accessible chromatin regions, but little work has been done in filamentous fungi.

The L-amino acid oxidase of Neurospora [PDF]

open access: yes, 1951
In 1944 one of us described a D-amino acid oxidase in extracts of Neurospora crassa (1). Except for slight activity against L-glutamate, no oxidation of L-amino acids was observed.

A tether for Woronin body inheritance is associated with evolutionary variation in organelle positioning. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2009
Eukaryotic organelles evolve to support the lifestyle of evolutionarily related organisms. In the fungi, filamentous Ascomycetes possess dense-core organelles called Woronin bodies (WBs).
