100 Years of peroxynitrite chemistry and 11 years of peroxynitrite biochemistry [PDF]

open access: yesRedox Report, 2001
The paper on the unusual properties of a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and nitrous acid by Baeyer and Villiger from 1901 can be regarded as the first report on peroxynitrite. In 1990, Beckman and co-workers suggested that peroxynitrite, formed from the reaction of superoxide with nitrogen monoxide, could be a transient oxidizing species in vivo, a ...

Pterin-6-aldehyde, Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitor and Superoxide Scavenger, Directly React with Peroxynitrite

open access: yesPteridines, 1999
The effect of pterin-6-aldehyde (P6A), xanthine oxidase inhibitor and superoxide scavenger, on the production of nitrotyrosine as a footprint of tyrosine nitration by peroxynitrite, was compared with that of uric acid, a peroxynitrite scavenger.

Detection of Peroxynitrite

open access: yesMethods, 1995
Abstract Peroxynitrite is the product of the nearly diffusion limited reaction between two free radicals, nitric oxide and superoxide. Peroxynitrite is a relatively long-lived, highly reactive species that can undergo harmful secondary oxidations of key cellular components.

Cyclic Hydroxylamines as Monitors of Peroxynitrite and Superoxide-Revisited

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
There is a considerable need for methods that allow quantitative determination in vitro and in vivo of transient oxidative species such as peroxynitrite (ONOOH/ONOO−) and superoxide (HO2•/O2•−).

Reaction of Astaxanthin with Peroxynitrite [PDF]

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2008
The in vitro reactivities of astaxanthin toward peroxynitrite were investigated and the reaction products after scavenging with peroxynitrite were analyzed in order to determine the complete mechanism of this reaction. A series of carotenoids, 13-apo-astaxanthinone (1), 12'-apo-15'-nitroastaxanthinal (2), 12'-apo-astaxanthinal (3), 10'-apo ...

Isotope Techniques in Chemical Wastewater Treatment: Opportunities and Uncertainties

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this review, we would first introduce basic knowledge about isotopic compounds and then scrutinize the physical and chemical influence induced by isotope changes. Special attention will be paid to the uncertainties in explaining the isotope results.

Degradation of Hyaluronan by Peroxynitrite

open access: yesArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1997
Treatment of high-molecular-weight hyaluronan (HA) with peroxynitrite at neutral pH (ONOO-/ONOOH) results in altered mobility on agarose gel electrophoresis, as well as reduced limiting viscosity number. Both effects are consistent with a reduction in HA molecular weight.

Linoleic acid-induced mitochondrial Ca(2+) efflux causes peroxynitrite generation and protein nitrotyrosylation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
It is well known that excessive non-esterified fatty acids in diabetes contribute to the pathogenesis of renal complications although the mechanism remains elusive.

Synthesis of Bimetallic (Iron–Cobalt) Single Atom Catalysts for Electrochemical Detection of Nitrites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A CO2 laser‐assisted solid‐state synthesis of a bimetallic single‐atom catalyst is presented. The resulting material consists of a 3D porous graphene support with iron and cobalt atoms anchored as single atoms. Through electrochemical methods, the material's efficiency is demonstrated in the sensitive and selective determination of nitrite, mimicking ...

Nitric Oxide, Peroxynitrite and Malondialdehyde Levels as Markers for Nitrosative/Oxidative Stress in Iraqi Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2017
Systemic lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease of unknown aetiology affecting multiple organ system. Reactive nitrogen and oxygen species are claimed to play a role in this disease.
