Efficient measurement of opsonising antibodies to Plasmodium falciparum merozoites. [PDF]
Antibodies targeting merozoites are important in protection from malaria. Therefore, merozoite surface proteins are attractive vaccine candidates. There is a need for robust functional assays to investigate mechanisms of acquired immunity and vaccine ...

Real-time imaging of Leishmania mexicana-infected early phagosomes: a study using primary macrophages generated from green fluorescent protein-Rab5 transgenic mice [PDF]
The small GTPase Rab5 is a key regulator of endosome/phagosome maturation and in intravesicular infections marks a phagosome stage at which decisions over pathogen replication or destruction are integrated.

Research progress of astrocyte phagocytosis in Alzheimer′s disease [PDF]
Astrocytes are heavily activated in Alzheimer′s disease, engulfing damaged synapses, Aβ proteins, Tau proteins, apoptotic cells and other substrates. However, these substrates are difficult to degrade, accumulate as the disease progresses, and impair the

Phagocytosis Assay of Microglia for Dead Neurons in Primary Rat Brain Cell Cultures
Clearance of dead brain tissue including the dead neurons through phagocytosis is an endogenous function of microglia in the brain, which is critical for inflammation resolution after ischemic stroke or head trauma.

Fcgamma receptor-mediated phagocytosis in macrophages lacking the Src family tyrosine kinases Hck, Fgr, and Lyn. [PDF]
Macrophage Fcgamma receptors (FcgammaRs) mediate the uptake and destruction of antibody-coated viruses, bacteria, and parasites. We examined FcgammaR signaling and phagocytic function in bone marrow-derived macrophages from mutant mice lacking the major ...

Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Loss of synchronized retinal phagocytosis and age-related blindness in mice lacking alphavbeta5 integrin. [PDF]
Daily phagocytosis by the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) of spent photoreceptor outer segment fragments is critical for vision. In the retina, early morning circadian photoreceptor rod shedding precedes synchronized uptake of shed photoreceptor ...

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
