Skin Disease Classification versus Skin Lesion Characterization: Achieving Robust Diagnosis using Multi-label Deep Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yes2016 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), Cancun, 2016, pp. 355-360, 2018
In this study, we investigate what a practically useful approach is in order to achieve robust skin disease diagnosis. A direct approach is to target the ground truth diagnosis labels, while an alternative approach instead focuses on determining skin lesion characteristics that are more visually consistent and discernible.

The application of multiple metrics in deformable image registration for target volume delineation of breast tumor bed

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background and purpose For postoperative breast cancer patients, deformable image registration (DIR) is challenged due to the large deformations and non‐correspondence caused by tumor resection and clip insertion. To deal with it, three metrics (fiducial‐, region‐, and intensity‐based) were jointly used in DIR algorithm for improved accuracy ...

Autoimmunity Diseases of the Skin [PDF]

open access: yesAutoimmune Diseases, 2013
The tegumentary system becomes a scenario for immune responses. The knowledge of these conditions has led to induction of complementary animal models, better knowledge of the pathophysiology, and new tools [1] for diagnosis and therapy of these autoimmune skin disorders.

EdgeMixup: Improving Fairness for Skin Disease Classification and Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Skin lesions can be an early indicator of a wide range of infectious and other diseases. The use of deep learning (DL) models to diagnose skin lesions has great potential in assisting clinicians with prescreening patients. However, these models often learn biases inherent in training data, which can lead to a performance gap in the diagnosis of people ...

Diseases of the Skin

open access: yesSouthern Medical Journal, 1922
Two new textbooks of dermatology have appeared recently which differ greatly in style and in their treatment of the subject. Dr. Sutton had the task of bringing a former edition up to date, but in so doing the book had to be entirely rewritten. There is a splendid bibliography which gives the advanced student a fine framework of literature for more ...
