Fine structure of exciton excited levels in a quantum dot with a magnetic ion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The fine structure of excited excitonic states in a quantum dot with an embedded magnetic ion is studied theoretically and experimentally. The developed theory takes into account the Coulomb interaction between charged carriers, the anisotropic long ...

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Water, electricity and ion exchange; how Hamish Small sustained the evolution of ion chromatography

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
Since the development of synthetic ion exchange resins in 1935, the electrochemical properties of these unique materials have intrigued researchers. In 1951, Hamish Small was introduced to synthetic ion exchange resin when he studied the electromigration

Functionalized nonwoven Nylon fabrics for cadmium ion exchange applications

open access: yesEngineering and Applied Science Research, 2020
Water pollution is a big issue of our world. This research aims to study the possibility of using carboxylate functionalized synthetic nonwoven fabrics for removing heavy metals from contaminated water.

Ion exchange of sodium with hydrochloric acid in ZSM-5 zeolite

open access: yesZaštita Materijala, 2021
ZSM-5 zeolites are highly silicate materials that have significant application in catalytic processes in petrochemistry, especially due to their high selectivity. Most reactions in the petrochemical industry are acid-catalyzed.

Ion Temperature Evolution in an Ultracold Neutral Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the long-time evolution of the ion temperature in an expanding ultracold neutral plasma using spatially resolved, laser-induced-fluorescence spectroscopy. Adiabatic cooling reduces the ion temperature by an order of magnitude during the plasma expansion, to temperatures as low as 0.2 K.

Sympathetic and swap cooling of trapped ions by cold atoms in a MOT [PDF]

open access: yesNat. Commun. 3:1126 (2012), 2011
A mixed system of cooled and trapped, ions and atoms, paves the way for ion assisted cold chemistry and novel many body studies. Due to the different individual trapping mechanisms, trapped atoms are significantly colder than trapped ions, therefore in the combined system, the strong binary ion$-$atom interaction results in heat flow from ions to atoms.

Ion-Exchanged Waveguides in Glass Doped with PbS Quantum Dots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The lowest-loss (≤1 dB/cm) ion-exchanged waveguides in glass doped with PbS quantum dots are presented. Near-field mode profile and refractive index profile using the refracted near-field technique were measured for these waveguides.

Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

Polarized Negative Ion Source with Multiply Sphericaly Focusing Surface Plasma Ionizer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
It is proposed one universal H-/D- ion source design combining the most advanced developments in the field of polarized ion sources to provide high-current high-brightness ion beams with >90% polarization and improved lifetime, reliability, and power efficiency.
