ABO blood group system and bone marrow transplantation [PDF]
The role of the ABO blood group system in determining the outcome of bone marrow transplantation was investigated in 53 patients with aplastic anemia and acute leukemia grafted from HLA-identical siblings. There was no correlation between ABO compatibility and marrow engraftment, graft rejection, or graft-versus-host disease.

Detection of a weaker subgroup of A in ABO blood group system. [PDF]
Testing to detect ABO incompatibility between a donor and potential transfusion recipient is the foundation on which all other pretransfusion testing is based. Sometimes, weak agglutination reactions may be obtained with reagent antibodies due to weak expression of A and B antigens on red blood cell (RBC) surface which may ...

ABO blood group system and occurrence of ischemic stroke [PDF]
Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a multifactorial disease that presents high rates of morbimortality in Brazil. Several studies proved that there is a link between the ABO blood group system and the occurrence of thrombotic events.

The ABO blood group system and Plasmodium falciparum malaria [PDF]
In the century since the discovery of the ABO blood groups, numerous associations between ABO groups and disease have been noted. However, the selection pressures defining the ABO distributions remain uncertain. We review published information on Plasmodium falciparum infection and ABO blood groups.

Non-association between anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies and ABO blood group system [PDF]
Toxoplasma gondii infects humans through the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), which elicits humoral immune response with specific antibodies. The expression of the ABO blood group glycoconjugates also occurs in this same system and may influence the human ...

A New Property of Iso-Agglutinins of the ABO Blood Group System [PDF]
Abstract A new agglutination phenomenon in the ABO group system is described. This phenomenon consists of the development of agglutinates by interaction between a single specifically sensitized cell and other unsensitized, nonantigenic cells.

The Lebanese COVID-19 Cohort; A Challenge for the ABO Blood Group System. [PDF]
A sudden outbreak of pneumonia caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has rapidly spread all over the world facilitating the declaration of the resultant disease as a pandemic on March 2020. Predisposing factors for acquiring COVID-19 and for developing a severe form of this disease were postulated to be related to ...

Biological and clinical aspects of ABO blood group system
The ABO blood group was discovered in 1900 by Austrian scientist, Karl Landsteiner. At present, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) approves as 29 human blood group systems. The ABO blood group system consists of four antigens (A, B, O and AB). These antigens are known as oligosaccharide antigens, and widely expressed on the membranes

ABO and RhD blood groups as contributors to dyslipidaemia – a cross-sectional study [PDF]
Background The ABO blood group system has shown an association with cardiovascular disease. The susceptibility to CVD is proposed to be partly mediated by dyslipidaemia in non-O individuals.
