The Role of Dendritic Spines in Water Exchange Measurements With Diffusion MRI: Double Diffusion Encoding and Free‐Waveform MRI

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 7, July 2026.
Geometric water exchange in dendritic spines imparts a similar signature on diffusion‐MRI signals as permeative, transmembrane water exchange. Current diffusion MRI methods are non‐specific to geometric and permeative exchange. This work proposes a method to disentangle these two modes of exchange, yielding both more accurate estimates of permeative ...

Capturing the Multi‐Decadal Evolution of Glacier–Permafrost Interactions in a High‐Alpine Environment (Ritord, Western Swiss Alps)

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, Volume 37, Issue 3, Page 473-497, July/September 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the multi‐decadal evolution of a glacier forefield under permafrost conditions in the Combins Massif (western Swiss Alps). A multi‐method approach based on historical and recent datasets is used to analyze its landform components.

Proteomic and Transcriptomic Signatures of Poor Asthma Symptom Control in the U‐BIOPRED Cohort

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 7, Page 2366-2380, July 2026.
No stable features were identified as associated with asthma symptom control in transcriptomics or sputum proteomics. Higher TWEAKR/TNFRSF12A and MBL/MBP‐C serum levels increased the odds of uncontrolled symptoms, while higher MK08/MAPK8 and CD5L serum levels decreased the odds, after adjustment for clinical variables.

Analytical Derivations of the Neighborhood Effect Averaging Problem (NEAP) and Its Two Variants: From Representative Samples to Unbiased Health Effect Sizes and Critical Insights Into Health Geography

open access: yesGeographical Analysis, Volume 58, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate environmental exposure measurements that maximally mitigate contextual errors are necessary for reliable modeling of human health outcomes. Recent advances in environmental exposure measurements highlight a new manifestation of contextual errors called the neighborhood effect averaging problem (NEAP).

Structural Response of Laser‐Driven Shock Compressed Albite

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Plagioclase records characteristic shock features that constrain meteorite impact conditions, but its phase evolution along the Hugoniot remains unresolved. We investigated shock‐induced phase transition in albite using in situ X‐ray diffraction during laser‐driven shock at 14–66 GPa. Albite retained its crystal structure up to at least 14 GPa
