Physiognomy and structure of a seasonal deciduous forest on the Ibiapaba plateau, Ceará, Brazil

open access: yesRodriguésia
The Brazilian semiarid region is dominated by caatinga. However, other vegetation formations occur, including deciduous and semi-deciduous forests. This study describes physiognomy and structure of a forest on the sedimentary Ibiapaba plateau. All plants

Modelling percentile based basal area weighted diameter distribution

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2007
In percentile method, percentiles of the diameter distribution are predicted with a system of models. The continuous empirical diameter distribution function is then obtained by interpolating between the predicted values of percentiles.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Quantificação e modelagem dos macronutrientes em povoamentos de bracatinga

open access: yesPesquisa Florestal Brasileira, 2012
quantificação dos nutrientes em ecossistemas florestais é fundamental para verificação da manutenção do fluxo contínuo entre o que é depositado no solo e o que é assimilado novamente pelas plantas.

Carbon content in a silvopastoril system of the paraguayan central Chaco

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Ciencias Forestales, 2020
The objective of this research was to evaluate the carbon content in a plot under silvopastoral management in a period of one year. This study was carried out in the Paraguayan central Chaco, in a permanent plot under silvopastoral system, due to the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This
