Novel Method of Remotely Monitoring the Face‐Device Distance and Face Illuminance Using Mobile Devices: A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Specially developed software (app) was written for handheld electronic devices that uses the device camera and light detector for real‐time monitoring of near‐work distance and environmental lighting. A pilot study of this novel app employed children using tablet computers in a classroom.

New Objective Refraction Metric Based on Sphere Fitting to the Wavefront

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Purpose. To develop an objective refraction formula based on the ocular wavefront error (WFE) expressed in terms of Zernike coefficients and pupil radius, which would be an accurate predictor of subjective spherical equivalent (SE) for different pupil sizes. Methods. A sphere is fitted to the ocular wavefront at the center and at a variable distance, t.

Optical Evaluation of New Designs of Multifocal Diffractive Corneal Inlays

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Purpose. To assess the imaging properties of two different designs of a new concept of corneal inlays whose working principle is based on diffraction. Methods. The quality of the retinal images provided by Diffractive Corneal Inlays (DCIs) was evaluated theoretically in comparison with Small Aperture Corneal Inlay (SACI). ZEMAX OpticStudio software was

Optical and Clinical Outcomes of an Isofocal Intraocular Lens vs. a Monofocal Standard Lens. [PDF]

open access: yesLife (Basel), 2023
The aim of this study is to evaluate the results obtained on the optical bench and clinically with an isofocal lens (ISOPure, BVI medical, Belgium) to compare them to a standard monofocal one (MicroPure, BVI medical, Belgium).

Fast and accurate visual acuity prediction based on optical aberrations and machine learning. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep
In this work, we propose three machine learning-based methods for predicting visual acuity (VA). Two methods utilize regression trees (LSBoost and XGBoost), and the third employs a neural network that classifies simulated aberrated optotypes as ...

Retinal Protection from LED-Backlit Screen Lights by Short Wavelength Absorption Filters. [PDF]

open access: yesCells, 2021
(1) Background: Ocular exposure to intense light or long-time exposure to low-intensity short-wavelength lights may cause eye injury. Excessive levels of blue light induce photochemical damage to the retinal pigment and degeneration of photoreceptors of ...

Convergence insufficiency prevalence in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder children depends on the diagnosis criteria. [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmic Physiol Opt
Abstract Purpose Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition commonly seen in children and adolescents, characterised by an increase in distractibility or inattention. Several studies have noted a higher rate of visual problems in this group, especially convergence insufficiency (CI), but when using different ...

Subjective quasi-vector-based refraction with a conventional phoropter. [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmic Physiol Opt
Abstract Purpose To introduce a novel methodology for subjective refraction based on power vectors with a conventional phoropter. Methods A conventional phoropter was used to measure power vector components of refraction (M, J0 and J45) directly by using the sphere power (for M measurement) and the cylinder power combined with the Jackson cross ...
