Editorial for the special issue: “targeting β- lactamases to fight bacterial resistance to β-Lactam antibiotics” [PDF]
In bacteria, a major resistance mechanism to β-lactam antibiotics is the production of one or more β-lactamase enzymes. β-Lactamases belong to two structurally and mechanistically unrelated families of enzymes, serine-β-lactamases (SBLs; classes A, C ...

The development of resistance to carbapenems in Klebsiella pneumoniae due to the production of metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) is a critical public health problem because carbapenems are the last-resort drugs used for treating severe infections of extended ...

Classification of Beta-lactamases and penicillin binding proteins using ligand-centric network models. [PDF]
β-lactamase mediated antibiotic resistance is an important health issue and the discovery of new β-lactam type antibiotics or β-lactamase inhibitors is an area of intense research.

The Role of Hydrophobic Nodes in the Dynamics of Class A β-Lactamases
Class A β-lactamases are known for being able to rapidly gain broad spectrum catalytic efficiency against most β-lactamase inhibitor combinations as a result of elusively minor point mutations.

Fungal Antimicrobial Resistance: Mechanisms, Drivers, and Global Clinical Burden
ABSTRACT Fungal antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern for world health caused by an increase in multidrug‐resistant infections, an increase in environmental reservoirs, and the ineffectiveness of current antifungal treatments. Fungal infections continue to be largely excluded from AMR initiatives while causing over 1.6 million deaths ...

An Efficient Computational Assay for β-Lactam Antibiotic Breakdown by Class A β-Lactamases [PDF]
Breakdown of β-lactam antibiotics by β-lactamases is one of the most common resistance mechanisms against these drugs. Here, we present a computationally efficient combined quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics simulation protocol for hydrolysis of the β-

Investigation on some Beta- lactamase enzym types in Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae [PDF]
Detection of β–lactamases was conducted in Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae isolated from root nodules of Vicia faba L.. Acidimetric method was used to detect the occurrence of β–lactamases in general, the isolate gave a positive result.

Antibacterial Activity of Heteropolytungstates Against Proteus mirabilis
We investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of several heteropolytungstates against P. mirabilis, a drug‐resistant pathogen. All tested polyanions inhibited bacterial growth, with the Preyssler–Pope–Jeannin polyanion P5W30 exhibiting the highest activity (MIC = 0.78 mg/mL).
