Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Comparison between the diagnostic utility of three-dimensional fluid attenuated inversion recovery (3D FLAIR) and three dimensional double inversion recovery (3D DIR) magnetic resonance sequences in the assessment of overall load of multiple sclerosis lesions in the brain

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
Background Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex CNS demyelinating disease. Assessment of MS plaques in specific anatomic locations in the brain was challenging to detect by conventional MRI sequences.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Bright and dark vessels on stroke imaging: different sides of the same coin?

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology, 2016
PURPOSEProminent hypointense cerebral vessels on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) and the hyperintense vessel sign (HVS) on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging are considered as markers of compromised tissue perfusion in cerebral ...

Proposal of Direct Search for Strongly Bound States of ppbar, npbar Systems with High Intensity and Collective pbar beam

open access: yes, 2005
In this letter, we discuss the possibility to look for the direct evidence of the existence of the ppbar and npbar bound states. Measurement of the single \gamma ray from the ppbar and npbar systems at rest can directly confirm whether the X(1860) and X ...

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Brain tumor segmentation using deep learning: high performance with minimized MRI data

open access: yesFrontiers in Radiology
PurposeBrain tumor segmentation with MRI is a challenging task, traditionally relying on manual delineation of regions-of-interest across multiple imaging sequences. However, this data-intensive approach is time-consuming.
