FLAIRectomy: Resecting beyond the Contrast Margin for Glioblastoma

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2022
The standard of care for isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wildtype glioblastoma (GBM) is maximal resection followed by chemotherapy and radiation. Studies investigating the resection of GBM have primarily focused on the contrast enhancing portion of the ...

Parametric study of the aeroelastic stability of a bearingless rotor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A trade study was conducted to illustrate the sensitivity of the aeroelastic stability of a bearingless main rotor to the rotor hub coupling parameters that are available for the designer.

Brain Tumor Synthetic Segmentation in 3D Multimodal MRI Scans

open access: yes, 2020
The magnetic resonance (MR) analysis of brain tumors is widely used for diagnosis and examination of tumor subregions. The overlapping area among the intensity distribution of healthy, enhancing, non-enhancing, and edema regions makes the automatic ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Meningeal contrast enhancement in multiple sclerosis: Assessment of field strength, acquisition delay, and clinical relevance.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Background/purposeLeptomeningeal enhancement (LME) on post-contrast FLAIR is described as a potential biomarker of meningeal inflammation in multiple sclerosis (MS).

The Effect of Sagittal STIR and FLAIR Sequences Compared to Sagittal T2-W for Characterizing MS Lesions in Cervical Spine MRI

open access: yesFrontiers in Biomedical Technologies, 2023
Purpose: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an acute, autoimmune, and inflammatory disease in the central nervous system. This study investigated the effect of sagittal Short Tau Inversion Recovery (STIR) and T2-W Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery (FLAIR ...

Monocular SLAM Supported Object Recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this work, we develop a monocular SLAM-aware object recognition system that is able to achieve considerably stronger recognition performance, as compared to classical object recognition systems that function on a frame-by-frame basis. By incorporating

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
