Impacts of livestock grazing on blue‐eared pheasants (Crossoptilon auritum) survival in subalpine forests of Southwest China

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 2, Issue 4, Page 201-213, December 2023., 2023
Livestock disturbances decreased the area of suitable habitat of forest pheasants by 14.28% in 7 years. Livestock activities remarkably increased the nest failure rate (by 2.18 times) of forest pheasants. Abstract The degradation and fragmentation of natural habitats, driven largely by anthropogenic activities such as grazing, represent growing ...

Habituation and tolerance in coyotes (Canis latrans), a flexible urban predator

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 1, Issue 4, Page 153-162, December 2023., 2023
We found that the intensity of urban coyote response to researchers was mediated by location of coyote within the anthropogenic landscape, human recreation patterns, and coyote group size. Coyotes were more tolerant when in larger groups, in sites with more human activity, and when found outside of the sites' recreational spaces.

Can tropical nature reserves provide and protect cultural ecosystem services? A case study in Xishuangbanna, China

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 2, Issue 3, Page 119-132, September 2023., 2023
Benefits derived from leisure and recreational, and wildlife cultural ecosystem services (CES) were predominantly safeguarded by nature reserves. In contrast, folk and custom CES and spiritual and religious CES were less reliant on these reserves due to intrinsic community‐based protection. Abstract Cultural ecosystem services (CES) play a pivotal role

HLA‐DR3 mediated CD4 T cell response against GAD65 in type 1 diabetes patients HLA‐DR3介导的CD4 T细胞对1型糖尿病患者GAD65的应答

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 7, Page 607-621, July 2023., 2023
Highlights The CD4 T cells of type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients particularly having HLA‐DRB1*03‐DQA1*05‐DQB1*02 haplotype are reactive against a particular region of the glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65) protein. GAD65 peptides encompassing 288–308 amino acid positions (peptide pool 2) may be favored by the HLA‐DR3 molecule for presentation to CD4 T ...

The first attempt of assessing the population status of large predators and their prey in an unexplored central Indian Protected Area

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 47-58, June 2023., 2023
The first attempt of population status assessment for large predators and their prey in a Protected Area in Central India, where no studies could take place due to violent political insurgencies for the last three to four decades. Baseline estimates showed population size and densities of all predators and prey were quite low.

Clustered conflicts in disturbed lowlands characterize human–tiger interactions in Aceh, Indonesia

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 83-91, June 2023., 2023
Livestock depredation (49%) and people reporting fear or anxiety upon tiger sightings (39%) comprised most incidents (n = 96) of human‐tiger conflict (HTC) in Aceh, Indonesia between 2017 and 2021. We found significant differences in the frequency of HTC cases among land cover types in Aceh = 160.4, df = 4, p < 0.001) with oil palm plantations ...

Uncorrected soil water isotopes through cryogenic vacuum distillation may lead to a false estimation on plant water sources

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 1443-1456, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Successful use of stable isotopes (δ2H and δ18O) in ecohydrological studies relies on the accurate extraction of unfractionated water from different types of soil samples. Cryogenic vacuum distillation (CVD) is a common laboratory‐based technique used for soil water extraction; however, the reliability of this technique in reflecting soil ...
