Insights from three decades of IUCN Red List assessments catalyzing shark, ray, and chimaera conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species is a critical measure of global aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity status. It is also the basis for the Red List Index, which tracks extinction risk over time.

Making Interview Multilingualism Visible: Transnational Chinese Language Teacher Identity Construction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines multilingual practices in research interviews, focusing on English lexical insertions in Chinese‐language research interviews with teachers of Chinese in Australian secondary schools, and treating these code‐switches as analytically meaningful rather than incidental.

From “Striving to Survive” to “Striving to Thrive”: A Narrative Inquiry Into a Student's Motivational Development via Translanguaging in EAP and EMI Contexts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While English‐medium instruction (EMI) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses are designed to promote language and content learning, their prevailing English‐only approaches often undermine students’ learning motivation. Against this backdrop, translanguaging has gained recognition as an effective pedagogical practice to support ...

The Effects of Gen‐AI on Situated and Future‐Driven Academic Writing Motivation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen‐AI) in education, there is still a significant gap in understanding its effects on the situated‐ and future‐driven motivation in academic writing. This longitudinal design‐based research sought to explore variations in academic writing motivation of 110 Chinese university ...

Predictive evolutionary genomics: principles, validation, and practice

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Climate change and habitat loss are driving rapid evolutionary responses in populations world‐wide, which creates an urgent need for evolutionary forecasting in conservation and agriculture. Such forecasting can be categorized into three time scales: trait‐based models that use multivariate quantitative genetic equations to project correlated ...

open access: yesGaoya dianqi, 2016

open access: yesGaoya dianqi, 2020

There Is Always a Bigger Fish. Determinants of Power Perceptions in Swiss Biodiversity Policy

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) views power as crucial in policy processes, but the nature of coalition power, its determinants, and how to empirically measure it remain understudied. In this article, we use a mixed method approach and social network analysis to explore power relationships in the biodiversity policy subsystem in ...

Mapping Measurement to Theory in Policy Evolution: A Case of Net Metering Policies of the United States

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The examination of policy evolution has important practical implications, but current literature often only evaluates changing policy goals and instruments at the macro‐level, overlooking changes that occur at the more granular, micro‐level of policy text.
