A Case Report on Rehabilitation of the Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) in the Wild 亚洲黑熊 (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) 野外放归野化案例报告

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Asiatic black bears in Russia face conservation threats such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, which exacerbate food shortages caused by crop failures. This study explores an innovative approach to rehabilitating bears that abandon hibernation in mid‐winter due to extreme exhaustion by providing supplemental food near their den sites.

Individual Variation in Overwintering Strategies of the Great Evening Bat (Ia io) in Subtropical China 中国亚热带地区大足蝠 (Ia io) 越冬策略的个体差异

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Tracking with GPS and accelerometers shows that great evening bats in subtropical China use two overwintering strategies: some remain in continuous hibernation, while others switch between torpor and activity as temperatures change. This behavioral flexibility, shaped by climate, underscores the importance of protecting diverse roosting habitats for ...

From pollen provision to pollinator: Species‐specific sterol assimilation by wild bees in urban landscapes

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Human‐driven landscape change, particularly urbanization, is reshaping pollinator communities, yet the functional traits that mediate species persistence remain poorly understood. Dietary specialization is commonly used to predict species vulnerability.

Prioritizing bat roosts for conservation with a global multicriteria bat roost priority index based on community science

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Prioritization in conservation is crucial for the development of efficient and effective decision‐making policies. For many decades, the importance of some species and their habitats has been assessed and applied in conservation legislation, but bats and their diurnal roosts have ofbeen overlooked.

Differences in characteristics between naturalized threatened plants and other threatened plants

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Many non‐native plant species introduced by humans have become naturalized. At the same time many species are threatened in their native range. However, the number of plant species threatened in their native range that are naturalized elsewhere remains unknown.

Functional homogenization of terrestrial mammals outside protected areas in the Hengduan Mountains, China

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite the crucial role of human impacts on biodiversity loss, many assessments of this loss focus on single metrics, such as species richness, and overlook the multidimensional effects of human activities. Because of its importance to ecosystem functioning, we investigated the functional diversity of medium‐ and large‐sized mammal ...

Effects of landscape context on avian specialist response to increased surface temperature in protected areas

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Human development is a driver of global change and a major threat to biodiversity. Protected areas maintain and support biodiversity, but outside stressors, such as climate change and land use change, can negatively influence natural resources within protected areas.

Calibration of the species threat abatement and restoration metric's threat abatement component in a Costa Rican landscape

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Achieving global conservation policy goals requires the ability to set and measure progress toward science‐based targets for biodiversity. The species threat abatement and restoration (STAR) metric was developed to enable actors to set science‐based targets for species.

Study on the construction of environmental education system in Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
