Abstract The accelerated pace of biological aging predicts mortality and morbidity later in life. The current study examines whether a change in supportive couple functioning buffers accelerated aging associated with stressful community environments among Black Americans who live in rural, Southern, disadvantaged neighborhoods.

HighlightsAutophagy is closely related to retinal neurovascular units in diabetes retinopathy. Different cells participate in the occurrence and development of diseases through autophagy, and targeted autophagy may be a new direction of treatment in the future. Emphasized the close relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and autophagy Summarized

Highlights Leukocyte telomere length was independently associated with the risk of cardiovascular mortality. Leukocyte telomere length was not associated with the risk of all‐cause mortality in patients with diabetes. Telomere length may be a predictor of cardiovascular mortality in diabetes.

The Association of Retinal age gap with metabolic syndrome and inflammation
Highlights Retinal age gap is a non‐invasive and cost‐effective aging biomarker. Retinal age gap was significantly associated with metabolic syndrome and inflammation. Retinal age gap could be potentially used as a screening tool for metabolic syndrome in large populations.

Highlights Individuals with type 2 diabetes display epidermal dysfunction. Epidermal dysfunction can provoke cutaneous and extracutaneous inflammation. Because of the pathogenic role of inflammation in type 2 diabetes, improvements in epidermal functions could benefit type 2 diabetes.

Werner syndrome presenting as early‐onset diabetes: A case report
We report a Chinese patient with Werner syndrome with uncommon early‐onset diabetes at age 18 years, who had low body mass index, insulin resistance, negative antibodies of diabetes and early onset of cataracts. Genome sequencing and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction confirm the diagnosis.

Highlights Meta‐analysis of α‐ and β‐cell transcriptomes reveals modified energy metabolism, immune response, autophagy, and cellular stress pathways in cells from type 2 diabetes mellitus. The proportion of immature and senescent β‐cells is increased in islets from type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Can defined contribution pensions survive the pandemic? The Chilean case
Abstract The impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic threatens the viability of Chile’s defined contribution (DC) pension system, undermining its financial foundation and exposing its vulnerability to political risk. The COVID‐19 crisis led to the approval of three rounds of emergency withdrawals of 10 per cent of pension savings (as of April 2021).
