Unenriched xylem water contribution during cellulose synthesis influenced by atmospheric demand governs the intra‐annual tree‐ring δ18O signature

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 240, Issue 5, Page 1743-1757, December 2023., 2023
Summary The oxygen isotope composition (δ18O) of tree‐ring cellulose is used to evaluate tree physiological responses to climate, but their interpretation is still limited due to the complexity of the isotope fractionation pathways. We assessed the relative contribution of seasonal needle and xylem water δ18O variations to the intra‐annual tree‐ring ...

The power of patterns: new insights into pattern‐triggered immunity

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 240, Issue 3, Page 960-967, November 2023., 2023
Summary The plant immune system features numerous immune receptors localized on the cell surface to monitor the apoplastic space for danger signals from a broad range of plant colonizers. Recent discoveries shed light on the enormous complexity of molecular signals sensed by these receptors, how they are generated and removed to maintain cellular ...

The YABBY gene SHATTERING1 controls activation rather than patterning of the abscission zone in Setaria viridis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 240, Issue 2, Page 846-862, October 2023., 2023
Summary Abscission is predetermined in specialized cell layers called the abscission zone (AZ) and activated by developmental or environmental signals. In the grass family, most identified AZ genes regulate AZ anatomy, which differs among lineages.

How dense can you be? New automatic measures of vein density in angiosperm leaves

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 11, Issue 5, September-October 2023., 2023
Abstract Premise Because of the trade‐off between water loss and carbon dioxide assimilation, the conductivity of the transpiration path in a leaf is an important limit on photosynthesis. Closely packed veins correspond to short paths and high assimilation rates while widely spaced veins are associated with higher resistance to flow and lower maximum ...

The barrier to radial oxygen loss protects roots against hydrogen sulphide intrusion and its toxic effect

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 238, Issue 5, Page 1825-1837, June 2023., 2023
Summary The root barrier to radial O2 loss (ROL) is a key root trait preventing O2 loss from roots to anoxic soils, thereby enabling root growth into anoxic, flooded soils. We hypothesized that the ROL barrier can also prevent intrusion of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), a potent phytotoxin in flooded soils.

Multifunctionality of Magnetic La(Fe, Si/Al)13‐Based Materials: Negative Thermal Expansion and Magnetocaloric Effect

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In recent years, the field of magnetic materials has witnessed a paradigm shift from single‐function applications to multifunctional integration, driven by the growing demand for smart materials in advanced technologies. Among various magnetic systems, La(Fe, Si/Al)13‐series materials have emerged as particularly promising candidates due to ...

福建仙游震群的孔隙压扩散特征

open access: yesDizhen xuebao, 2018

The Application of Borehole Hydrogeological Investigation for Assessing Landslide Susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
On the basis of 49 borehole studies at the mid- and upper-stream of the Dajia and Jhuoshuei river basins, landslide occurrence was found to not only be related to subsurface geological composition and hydrogeological characteristics, but also to ...

On the Damage Tolerance of Diffusion Bonded Titanium–Aluminum Phase Biomimetic Composites

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The biomimetic design principles of natural structures involve the strategic integration of stiff and compliant phases to synergistically enhance strength and toughness. Its evolutionary refined natural armor, characterized by a specialized microarchitecture, enables superior damage tolerance.

Representation of obligate groundwater‐dwelling copepod diversity in European protected areas

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Groundwaters sustain diverse surface ecosystems and are populated by metazoan species, mostly invertebrates, that provide fundamental ecological functions and are often of prominent conservation value due to narrow endemism and high phylogenetic rarity.
