The link between obesity and insulin resistance among children: Effects of key metabolites 儿童肥胖与胰岛素抵抗之间的联系:关键代谢产物的影响

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 1020-1028, December 2023., 2023
Highlights Childhood obesity was significantly associated with the increased risk of insulin resistance (IR). There were 12 metabolites co‐associated with childhood obesity and IR, including seven amino acid and five fatty acid metabolites. The combination of body mass index standard deviation score and key metabolites could effectively predict the ...

Machine Learning Model for an App‐Based Tool to Assist With the Diagnosis of Canine Atopic Dermatitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is a chronic condition requiring life‐long management. Accurate diagnosis can be challenging, with no reliable diagnostic test. This study aimed to generate a simple diagnostic model for cAD. This model is a relevant prototype for an app‐based tool to support general practitioners in the diagnosis of cAD alongside ...

Hurricane Impacts on the Population Genetics of an Endangered Ecosystem Engineer 飓风对一种濒危生态系统工程师的种群遗传学影响

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 641-651, December 2025.
Key Largo woodrats are a small and endangered island species, whose individuals tend to occur in family groups. Isolation from mainland populations, predation, and habitat fragmentation have caused genetic drift, leading to low overall diversity. Here, we found that a major category 4 hurricane promoted genetic diversity in the Key Largo woodrat ...

Social Determinants of Sepsis Mortality in the United States: A Retrospective, Epidemiologic Analysis

open access: yesWorld Medical &Health Policy, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 823-830, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality in the United States, with over 350,000 deaths annually, yet the contribution of neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDoH) remains underexplored. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 4.4 million hospitalized patients with sepsis, identified using ICD‐10 codes, leveraging de‐identified ...

Finding floral and faunal species richness optima among active fire regimes

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Changing fire regimes have important implications for biodiversity and challenge traditional conservation approaches that rely on historical conditions as proxies for ecological integrity. This historical‐centric approach becomes increasingly tenuous under climate change, necessitating direct tests of environmental impacts on biodiversity.

Threshold responses of floating meadow fish communities to floodplain forest cover in the lower Amazon River

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Forest cover is positively associated with fish biomass and fisheries yield in the Amazon River floodplain, and many species enter flooded forests to feed, spawn, or seek refuge from predation. Floating macrophyte beds, known as floating meadows, in Amazon floodplains support high fish diversity and serve as nursery habitat for many fishes of ...

Vegetation dominantly shapes the elevational patterns of archaeal and protistan communities and their ecological functions in the Hengduan Mountains, Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 9, Page 2327-2341, September 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract While elevational patterns of soil bacterial and fungal communities in mountain ecosystems have been well documented, the assembly processes of soil archaeal and protistan communities, and their linkage with ecosystem multifunctionality (EMF), remain poorly understood ...

Drought decreases carbon flux but not transport speed of newly fixed carbon from leaves to sinks in a giant bamboo forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 7, Page 1746-1759, July 2025.
In forests dominated by large clonal plants, such as giant moso bamboo, drought can alter the allocation of newly assimilated C within the tissues of source ramet but may not affect its allocation among interconnected ramets or within plant–soil systems.

Tree mycorrhizal associations regulate relationships between plant and microbial communities and soil organic carbon stocks at local scales in a temperate forest

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 6, Page 1550-1566, June 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Forests store substantial amounts of soil organic carbon (SOC), but SOC stocks differ strongly between forest ecosystems dominated by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) or ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi.
