The heat kernel for deformed spheres

open access: yes, 1994
We derive the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel for a Laplace operator acting on deformed spheres. We calculate the coefficients of the heat kernel expansion on two- and three-dimensional deformed spheres as functions of deformation parameters.

A placebo‐controlled, double‐blind study evaluating the effect of orally administered polyunsaturated fatty acids on the oclacitinib dose for atopic dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 408-417, August 2024.
Background – Supplementation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) enables dose reduction of prednisolone and ciclosporin in canine atopic dermatitis (cAD). Objective – To determine if oral administration of PUFA can reduce the dose of oclacitinib for cAD. Conclusion – Oral supplementation of PUFA allowed dose reduction of oclacitinib and improved pVAS,

Effects of Lorentz symmetry breaking on quantum coherence in an expanding universe

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
This study investigates the interplay between Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) and quantum decoherence within an expanding universe. Motivated by quantum-gravity phenomenology, we incorporate a minimal length scale via spatial discretization, which ...

Establishment of clinical criteria for the diagnosis of adverse food reactions in dogs with atopic dermatitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 418-431, August 2024.
Background – Diagnosis of canine adverse food reactions (AFRs) is based on vague criteria, such as ‘>50% improvement’ during elimination diet trial (EDT) followed by ‘deterioration’ during provocation test (PT). Objective – The objective of the study was to use predefined criteria to evaluate response during EDT [i.e., Owner Global Assessment of ...

Euclidean quantum gravity and stochastic approach: Physical reality of complex-valued instantons

open access: yes, 2012
In this talk, we compare two states: the stationary state in stochastic inflation and the ground state wave function of the universe. We already know that, for the potential with a static field, two pictures give the same probability distribution.

Two disjoint aspects of the deformation programme: quantizing Nambu mechanics; singleton physics

open access: yes, 1998
We present briefly the deformation philosophy and indicate, with references, how it was applied to the quantization of Nambu mechanics and to particle physics in anti De Sitter space.Comment: 4 pages; to be published with AIP Press in Proceedings of the ...

Critical curvature of large-$N$ nonlinear $O(N)$ sigma model on $S^2$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We study the nonlinear $O(N)$ sigma model on $S^2$ with the gravitational coupling term, by evaluating the effective potential in the large-$N$ limit. It is shown that there is a critical curvature $R_c$ of $S^2$ for any positive gravitational coupling ...

The Central Charge of the Warped AdS^3 Black Hole

open access: yes, 2010
The AdS/CFT conjecture offers the possibility of a quantum description for a black hole in terms of a CFT. This has led to the study of general AdS^3 type black holes with a view to constructing an explicit toy quantum black hole model.

Alternative Derivation of the Correspondence Between Rindler and Minkowski Particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We develop an alternative derivation of Unruh and Wald's seminal result that the absorption of a Rindler particle by a detector as described by uniformly accelerated observers corresponds to the emission of a Minkowski particle as described by inertial ...

Quantum entropy of two-dimensional extreme charged dilaton black hole

open access: yes, 1998
By using Hawking's treatment as well as Zaslavskii's treatment respectively and the brick wall model, two different values of classical entropy and quantum entropy of scalar fields in the two-dimensional extreme charged dilaton black hole backgrounds ...
