Localized patterns and hole solutions in one-dimension extended sytem
The existence, stability properties, and bifurcation diagrams of localized patterns and hole solutions in one-dimensional extended systems is studied from the point of view of front interactions.

Stationary propagation of a wave segment along an inhomogeneous excitable stripe
We report a numerical and theoretical study of an excitation wave propagating along an inhomogeneous stripe of an excitable medium. The stripe inhomogeneity is due to a jump of the propagation velocity in the direction transverse to the wave motion ...

The Grounds For Time Dependent Market Potentials From Dealers' Dynamics
We apply the potential force estimation method to artificial time series of market price produced by a deterministic dealer model. We find that dealers' feedback of linear prediction of market price based on the latest mean price changes plays the ...

Nucleation of reaction-diffusion waves on curved surfaces
We study reaction-diffusion waves on curved two-dimensional surfaces, and determine the influence of curvature upon the nucleation and propagation of spatially localized waves in an excitable medium modelled by the generic FitzHugh–Nagumo model.

The Bi-Hamiltonian Structure of the Short Pulse Equation
We prove the integrability of the short pulse equation derived recently by Sch\"afer and Wayne from a hamiltonian point of view. We give its bi-hamiltonian structure and show how the recursion operator defined by the hamiltonian operators is connected ...

LHC@Home: a BOINC-based volunteer computing infrastructure for physics studies at CERN
The LHC@Home BOINC project has provided computing capacity for numerical simulations to researchers at CERN since 2004, and has since 2011 been expanded with a wider range of applications. The traditional CERN accelerator physics simulation code SixTrack

High intermodulation gain in a micromechanical Duffing resonator
In this work we use a micromechanical resonator to experimentally study small signal amplification near the onset of Duffing bistability. The device consists of a PdAu beam serving as a micromechanical resonator excited by an adjacent gate electrode.

Advances in photonic reservoir computing
We review a novel paradigm that has emerged in analogue neuromorphic optical computing. The goal is to implement a reservoir computer in optics, where information is encoded in the intensity and phase of the optical field.

Chaotic diffusion of particles with finite mass in oscillating convection flows
Deterministic diffusion in temporally oscillating convection is studied for particles with finite mass. The particles are assumed to obey a simple dissipative dynamical system and the particle diffusion is induced by the strange attractor.

Validity of the Brunet-Derrida formula for the speed of pulled fronts with a cutoff
We establish rigorous upper and lower bounds for the speed of pulled fronts with a cutoff. We show that the Brunet-Derrida formula corresponds to the leading order expansion in the cut-off parameter of both the upper and lower bounds.
