Influence of hospital size on antimicrobial resistance and advantages of restricting antimicrobial use based on cumulative antibiograms in dogs with Staphylococcus pseudintermedius infections in Japan

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 668-e178, December 2021., 2021
Background Antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (SP) and the prevalence of meticillin‐resistant SP (MRSP) is increasing in dogs worldwide. Objectives To evaluate the influence of hospital size on antimicrobial resistance of SP and whether restricted use of antimicrobials based on antibiograms could reduce the identification of ...

Efficacy and safety of 0.0584% hydrocortisone aceponate topical spray and systemic oclacitinib combination therapy in dogs with atopic dermatitis: a randomized, double‐blinded, placebo‐controlled trial

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 32, Issue 2, Page 119-e25, April 2021., 2021
Background – Oclacitinib is an effective systemic therapy for dogs with atopic dermatitis (AD). Few studies have evaluated concurrent topical treatment with oclacitinib in dogs. Objectives – To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy of oclacitinib and 0.0584% hydrocortisone aceponate (HCA) spray in dogs with AD.

The Second Law Today: Using Maximum-Minimum Entropy Generation

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
There are a great number of thermodynamic schools, independent of each other, and without a powerful general approach, but with a split on non-equilibrium thermodynamics. In 1912, in relation to the stationary non-equilibrium states, Ehrenfest introduced

Comment on "Third Law of thermodynamics as a key test of generalized entropies" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bento \textit{et al.} [Phys. Rev. E 91, 022105 (2015)] state that the Tsallis entropy violates the third law of thermodynamics for $q \leq 0$ and ...

Kinetics and thermodynamics of reversible polymerization in closed systems

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
Motivated by a recent study on the metabolism of carbohydrates in bacteria, we study the kinetics and thermodynamics of two classic models for reversible polymerization, one preserving the total polymer concentration and the other one not.

Fluctuation theorem between non-equilibrium states in an RC circuit

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
Fluctuation theorems impose constraints on the probability of observing negative entropy production in small systems driven out of equilibrium. The range of validity of fluctuation theorems has been extensively tested for transitions between equilibrium ...

Is the Quilted Multiverse Consistent with a Thermodynamic Arrow of Time?

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2018
Theoretical achievements, as well as much controversy, surround multiverse theory. Various types of multiverses, with an increasing amount of complexity, were suggested and thoroughly discussed in literature by now.

The thermodynamic cost of quantum operations

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
The amount of heat generated by computers is rapidly becoming one of the main problems for developing new generations of information technology. The thermodynamics of computation sets the ultimate physical bounds on heat generation.

Analytical solutions for the fractional diffusion-advection equation describing super-diffusion

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2016
This paper presents the alternative construction of the diffusion-advection equation in the range (1; 2). The fractional derivative of the Liouville-Caputo type is applied. Analytical solutions are obtained in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions.

Thermodynamic Analysis of V-concentrating Phase Formation in V-bearing Steelmaking Slag Modified by MgO

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2015
In the study, magnesium oxide acting as modifier was added to V-bearing steelmaking slag to concentrate vanadium, and then the effect of magnesium oxide on the formation of V-concentrating phase during cooling was investigated.
