Damping Modification Factors for Pile–Induced Filtering Effect

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 907-925, 10 April 2026.
ABSTRACT Period–dependent Damping Modification Factors are usually applied to the 5%–damped pseudo–acceleration response spectrum at free field conditions to derive the seismic demand for structures with damping ratio other than 5%. Likewise, the response spectrum at the foundation level of pile–supported structures may differ from the free field ...

Underweight Status Amplifies Respiratory Infection Mortality in Diabetes: Findings From a Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Diabetes increases susceptibility to infectious respiratory diseases, but the impact of underweight status on mortality from these conditions remains unclear. We evaluated the association between low body mass index (BMI) and respiratory infection‐related mortality in a large nationwide cohort of individuals with diabetes.

Biochar‐Compost From Cashew Apple Residue as a Soil Amendment for Cashew Cultivation in Ghana

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The study investigated the effect of different compost types on the growth performance of cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) varieties cultivated in a Lixisol from Northern Ghana. Six compost formulations were prepared using various combinations of poultry manure, cow dung, biochar, and cashew apple residue at different mixing ratios.

FocoNet: Transformer‐Based Focal‐Mechanism Determination

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Traditional focal‐mechanism determination primarily relies on fitting the first‐motion polarities with grid‐search algorithms. We developed a machine‐learning model, FocoNet, to include more seismic information into focal mechanism determination.
