Extreme Potomac Floods at Washington D.C. During the Past 500 Years
Abstract Washington D.C. faces one of the highest 100‐year flood risks of any major city along the U.S. East Coast. In addition to storm‐surge inundation during hurricanes and nor'easters, water‐level observations for Washington are strongly skewed by major floods on the Potomac River.

Comparison of data on Mutation Frequencies of Mice Caused by Radiation - Low Dose Model -
We propose LD(Low Dose) model, the extension of LDM model which was proposed in the previous paper [Y. Manabe et al.: J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 81 (2012) 104004] to estimate biological damage caused by irradiation. LD model takes account of all the considerable

Results from the First Science Run of the ZEPLIN-III Dark Matter Search Experiment [PDF]
The ZEPLIN-III experiment in the Palmer Underground Laboratory at Boulby uses a 12kg two-phase xenon time projection chamber to search for the weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) that may account for the dark matter of our Galaxy.

Abstract In the changing Arctic, permafrost thaw is shifting from gradual to abrupt. Although iron‐bound organic carbon (OC‐FeR) critically modulates permafrost carbon‐climate feedbacks, its decadal‐scale variability and response to this regime shift remain poorly constrained.

Compton Imaging of MeV Gamma-Rays with the Liquid Xenon Gamma-Ray Imaging Telescope (LXeGRIT)
The Liquid Xenon Gamma-Ray Imaging Telescope (LXeGRIT) is the first realization of a liquid xenon time projection chamber for Compton imaging of MeV gamma-ray sources in astrophysics.

Genomic stability in response to high versus low linear energy transfer radiation in Arabidopsis thaliana. [PDF]
Low linear energy transfer (LET) gamma rays and high LET HZE (high atomic weight, high energy) particles act as powerful mutagens in both plants and animals.

137Cs distribution in guava trees [PDF]
This paper presents results of 137 Cs concentration measured from a guava tree cultivated after the first decontamination work of one of the sites where the worst Brazilian radiological accident occurred. The present work aims to verify how the 137 Cs is transported and distributed along the tropical trees.

The $\bar{\nu}_{e}-e^{-}$ elastic scattering cross-section was measured with a CsI(Tl) scintillating crystal array having a total mass of 187kg. The detector was exposed to an average reactor $\bar{\nu}_{e}$ flux of $\rm{6.4\times 10^{12} ~ cm^{-2}s^{-1}}
