One‐Time Top‐Dressing of Panicle Nitrogen Fertilizer Maintains High Grain Yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency of Rice in South China

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Optimized nitrogen (N) management for rice production typically involves multiple split applications of N fertilizer to enhance rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). However, China's rural labor shortage highlights the need to reduce the frequency of fertilizer applications to minimize labor inputs and improve production efficiency.

Nonthermal Concentration of Red Beetroot Juice by Reverse Osmosis and Forward Osmosis

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
RO and FO were used for nonthermal concentration of red beetroot juice. Single strength juice was concentrated by RO to 17 °Brix, and by FO to 50 °Brix; color and betalain were preserved by both processes. Overall, FO is a promising method for concentrating beetroot juice.

Impact of Inoculation Strategy on Dendrobium nobile Lindl. Rice Wine Quality Through the Use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae FBKL2.8022 and Wickerhamomyces anomalus FBKL2.8023

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This graphical abstract compares four fermentation strategies for D. nobile rice wine: simultaneous inoculation without D. nobile (SW), simultaneous inoculation with D. nobile (DnSW), sequential inoculation without D. nobile (WS), and sequential inoculation with D. nobile (DnWS). Simultaneous inoculation (SW/DnSW) enhanced volatile compound content (up

Effects of Different Dietary Levels of Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) and Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) on Adipokines and Anthropometric Parameters in Rats

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Six weeks dietary supplementation with chia (Salvia hispanica L.) and quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) modulated adipokine profiles and anthropometric parameters in male Wistar rats: 20% chia and quinoa decreased serum chemerin, resistin, and insulin levels while increasing omentin; 10%–20% supplementation decreased visfatin; all supplemented diets ...

Decadal Bowhead Whale Baleen Stable Isotope and Hormone Chronologies (1985–2010) Provide Insight Into Arctic Ecosystem Change

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 3, September 2026.
Long‐term chronologies constructed from individual bowhead baleen plates reveal stable isotope declines consistent with regional Arctic food web or productivity changes superimposed on global anthropogenic C and N inputs, while relatively stable hormone concentrations over the same period provide no evidence of a concomitant increase in physiological ...
