Smart Sampling Capsule for Capture and Detection of Enteric Pathogens in the Small Intestine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An ingestible smart sampling capsule for capturing asymptomatic enteric pathogens at their primary sites of interaction within the small intestine. This capability enables non‐invasive detection of early pathogen colonization within the gut environment prior to fecal shedding, providing a robust approach for pathogen surveillance and microbiome studies.

16S rRNA gene sequencing and healthy reference ranges for 28 clinically relevant microbial taxa from the human gut microbiome

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Changes in the relative abundances of many intestinal microorganisms, both those that naturally occur in the human gut microbiome and those that are considered pathogens, have been associated with a range of diseases.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Genomic GC-Content Affects the Accuracy of 16S rRNA Gene Sequencing Based Microbial Profiling due to PCR Bias

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Profiling of microbial community composition is frequently performed by partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing on benchtop platforms following PCR amplification of specific hypervariable regions within this gene.

3D‐Printed Macroporous Resin Anode in Microbial Fuel Cell‐Based Biosensors for Efficient Biodegradable Organic Carbon Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D‐printed gyroid resin anode for microbial fuel cell biosensors. Compared with carbon felt, it enables either a broader dynamic range or higher sensitivity, depending on the operation mode. By improving real‐time monitoring of organic load, these biosensors support more efficient process control and contribute to the goal of ...

Stool sampling and DNA isolation kits affect DNA quality and bacterial composition following 16S rRNA gene sequencing using MiSeq Illumina platform

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Many studies correlate changes in human gut microbiome with the onset of various diseases, mostly by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Setting up the optimal sampling and DNA isolation procedures is crucial for robustness and reproducibility of the results.

Excessive DNA Double‐Strand Breaks–Associated 3D Genome Reorganization Contributes to Neural Tube Defects with Folate Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neural tube defects (NTDs) are among the most common congenital malformations. However, the underlying etiology and mechanism remain elusive. Here, the role of DNA double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in 3D genome organization within the NTDs with folate deficiency is reported.

Multiomics Analyses Reveal an Essential Role of Tryptophan in Treatment of csDMARDs in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease characterized by joint inflammation. Approximately 50% of patients show insufficient response to traditional synthetic disease‐modifying antirheumatic drugs. This study aims to elucidate differential molecular profiles of the mechanisms underlying drug responses through multi‐omics strategy.

Lnc‐HZ05 Suppresses Trophoblast Cell Migrasome Formation by Disrupting TGFβ2 Pathway in Unexplained Recurrent Miscarriage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TGFβ2 signaling‐mediated migration/invasion and migrasome formation are suppressed in recurrent miscarriage (RM) versus healthy control villous tissues and are negatively associated with unexplained RM. In mechanism, TGFβ2 promotes trophoblast cell migration/invasion and migrasome formation, all of which are suppressed by lnc‐HZ05. In details, lnc‐HZ05
