Localised corrosion behaviour of 17–4 PH stainless steel
Materials Science and Technology, 1990AbstractThe localised corrosion behaviour of 17–4 PH (precipitation hardenable) stainless steel, in the solution annealed, aged, and overaged conditions, was studied in acidic chloride and sulphuric acid media using the potentiodynamic anodic polarisation method. Electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR) studies and microstructural examination

Injection Molding of 17-4 PH Stainless Steel
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984<div class="htmlview paragraph">17-4 PH stainless steel has been successfully formed by powder metallurgy (P/M) injection molding. Injection molding is a relatively new P/M technique. In this process, metal powder is mixed with a plastic binder, and the part shape is injection molded as in plastics fabrication practice.

The rate of dynamic recrystallization in 17-4 PH stainless steel
Materials & Design, 2010Abstract The hot working behavior of 17-4 PH stainless steel (AISI 630) was studied by hot compression test at temperatures of 950–1150 °C with strain rates of 0.001–10 s −1 . The progress of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was modeled by the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) kinetics equation.

Optimization of the Heat Treatment of a 17-4 PH Stainless Steel by Dilatometric Technique
Journal of ASTM International, 2008Abstract The precipitation-hardening steels are generally required when high mechanical performances at high temperatures are requested both statically and dynamically. The requested combination of mechanical strength and toughness is achieved by means of an age-hardening treatment which can be carried out at different temperatures and ...

Impact properties of sintered and wrought 17–4 PH stainless steel
Powder Metallurgy, 2006Charpy V notch (CVN) impact testing was conducted on full size and subsize specimens of sintered and wrought 17–4 PH stainless steel (17–4 PH SS) in the as sintered and H900 heat treated conditions. Test geometries correspond to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) impact testing standards.

Failure of a 17-4 PH stainless steel sailboat propeller shaft
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2003Abstract In this study, a 17-4 PH precipitation hardening stainless steel propeller shaft failed in use when installed in a sailboat working in a marine environment. Failure analysis was conducted on the propeller shaft. Results indicate that the failure was caused by the fracture of the propeller shaft by torsional fatigue and stress corrosion ...

Embrittlement of laser surface-annealed 17-4 PH stainless steel
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2001Abstract Stress corrosion cracking and fatigue crack growth behavior were determined in 17-4 PH stainless steel under various metallurgical conditions, including the H900 (482°C/1 h), H1025 (552°C/4 h) aging and laser surface annealing treatments. Peak-aged (H900) specimens locally irradiated by laser beam consisted of a portion of composite region ...

An Acoustical Emission-Damping Fatigue Study of a 17-4 PH Steel
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1974Abstract The acoustic emissions emitted from a 17-4 PH stainless steel were monitored while the specimen was undergoing fatigue testing in the torsional mode. Below the cyclical stress sensitivity limit (CSSL) of the material no abnormal emissions were detected, while at and above CSSL emissions were detected which could be attributed to

Failures of 17-4 PH Steel Parts in Non Sour Environments
CORROSION 2014, 2014Abstract 17-4 PH material is a Cr-Ni low carbon martensitic stainless steel containing Cu as the precipitation hardening element, to be solution annealed and aged (or double aged) to acquire different levels of strength, usually higher than 100 ksi (689 MPa) Yield Strength. This material is adopted for parts like stems and springs, where

Pitting Behavior of Type 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Weldments
Corrosion, 1995Electrochemical methods of measuring pitting potentials (Epit) were used to study the pitting resistance of type 17% Cr-4% Ni (17-4, UNS S17400) precipitation hardenable (PH) stainless steel (SS) weldments. The main objectives were to evaluate the pitting resistance of the base metal, the heat-affected zone (HAZ), and the weld metal portions of 17-4 PH
