The anaerobic biodegradation of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) was investigated using enrichment cultures from freshwater sediments at two different sites in the region of Halle, central Germany. 2,4,5-T and different organic acids or hydrogen were added as possible electron acceptor and electron donors, respectively.

One of the toxic symptoms of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) is reduction in metabolic rate and subsequent growth retardation. Acetylcholine (ACh) serves as an essential growth factor to facilitate amino acid transport and to promote fetal growth.

A method is described for the determination of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic Acid (2,4,5-T), 2,4,5-T-Akylesters and commercial herbicide formulations containing these substances. TCDD is extracted from alkaline solution with n-hexane and purified by column chromatography on silica gel and Florisil.
