Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The Porn Bill in Indonesia: A Threat to Pluralism? Das Pornografie-Gesetz in Indonesien: Eine Gefahr für den Pluralismus?

open access: yesJournal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, 2009
On 30 October 2008 Indonesia’s parliament passed a controversial pornography bill after following years of heavy debate. According to the wording of the law, pornography means not only the production and distribution of pornographic material, but also ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Nano Materials against Acidovorax citrulli and Other Plant Pathogens

open access: yesResearch in Plant Disease, 2015
Antimicrobial activities of nano-materials were tested against several plant pathogens. Twelve different nanomaterials were used to observe the antagonistic activity against three kinds of mold and sixteen different kinds of watermelon fruit rot ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The 235U Prompt Fission Neutron Spectrum in the BR1 Reactor at SCK•CEN

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
The BR1 research reactor at SCK•CEN has a spherical cavity in the graphite above the reactor core. In this cavity an accurately characterised Maxwellian thermal neutron field is present. Different converters can be loaded in the cavity in order to obtain

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Rasamsonia argillacea species complex myocarditis in a patient with chronic granulomatous disease

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2019
Herein, we present a case of successfully treated biopsy-proven Rasamsonia argillacea species complex myocarditis, pericarditis, and pulmonary infection in a 35-year-old male with a history of chronic granulomatous disease.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
