Two-filter monitor for atmospheric 222Rn

A two-filter, continuous monitor has been developed for atmospheric 222Rn. Features include a sensitivity of better than 0.01 pCi/l, a high specificity for 222Rn, and immediate start up capability. The monitor has been computer modeled to facilitate calibration and selection of operating parameters.

Measurement of 222Rn Concentration in Kenyan Groundwater

Groundwater samples from different parts of Kenya have been analyzed for their 222Rn concentrations. Samples were drawn from municipal supplies, springs, wells and bore holes in different geological terrains. In the analysis, conventional liquid scintillation counting, using the Packard protocol for measuring radon in water, was employed.

Airborne 222Rn Concentration in Cypriot Houses

Studies from a pilot survey in 89 houses in Cyprus show that the arithmetic mean for the housing stock is about 7 Bq m-3 and the annual effective dose equivalent to the population from radon progeny is < 330 microSv y-1. Four houses have values > 30 Bq m-3, corresponding to two standard deviations from the mean value.

Indoor 222Rn Concentrations in Istanbul Houses

Indoor average 222Rn concentrations have been measured in more than 400 houses in Istanbul city. The average radon concentrations in the houses were found to be between 10 Bq m-3 and 260 Bq m-3 and the mean value was 50 Bq m-3.
