Circulating Vitamin D Levels and Risk of Vitiligo: Evidence From Meta-Analysis and Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2021
Background: The association between circulating vitamin D levels and risk of vitiligo was inconsistent among observational studies, and whether these observed associations were causal remained unclear.

25-Hydroxyvitamin D in Plasma of Cattle

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1979
Blood samples from 12 Shorthorn heifers, fed a grass silage ration and housed indoors or outdoors, were assayed for 25-hydroxyvitamin D during 9 mo. There was more in plasma during the summer from the outdoor group, reflecting a greater exposure to ultraviolet light and dermal synthesis of vitamin D, the precursor of 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

25‐Hydroxyvitamin D Levels and Hypertension Rates

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, 2010
Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to cardiovascular disease and risk factors including hypertension. The authors sought to determine prevalence rates of hypertension in adults tested for 25‐hydroxyvitamin D categorized by their levels and evaluate odds ratios for hypertension at lower 25‐hydroxyvitamin D levels compared with optimal levels.

Associations of vitamin D pathway genes with circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin-D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin-D, and prostate cancer: A nested case-control study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Vitamin D pathway single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are potentially useful proxies for investigating whether circulating vitamin D metabolites [total 25-hydroxyvitamin-D, 25(OH)D; 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin, 1,25(OH)2D] are causally related to prostate ...

Quantifying environmental risk factors for multiple sclerosis in discordant monozygotic twins: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Relative contribution of genetic and environmental risk factors in complex disorders is widely explored through discordant identical twins. Multiple sclerosis is a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system in which the interplay of genetic and ...

Dynamic changes in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D during pregnancy and lack of effect on thyroid parameters.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Background & aimsTo explore vitamin D status and its dynamic changes during pregnancy in women living in Northeast China. The association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D and serum calcium, phosphate and parathyroid hormone was studied.

Pitfalls with Vitamin D Research in Musculoskeletal Disorders and Recommendations on How to Avoid Them

open access: yesJCRPE, 2019
Reports suggesting that vitamin D may have extraskeletal roles have renewed interest in vitamin D research and stimulated publication of an increasing number of new studies each year. These studies typically assess vitamin D status by measuring the blood

The relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and parathyroid hormone concentration in assessing vitamin D deficiency in pet rabbits

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2020
Background Vitamin D deficiency and related metabolic bone diseases in pet rabbits have been intermittently debated. In human research, the parathyroid hormone concentration in relation to the 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration is used to determine ...

Higher serum vitamin D3 levels are associated with better cognitive test performance in patients with Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background/Aims: Recent studies suggest that vitamin D metabolites may be important for preserving cognitive function via specific neuroprotective effects. No large studies have examined the association between vitamin D status and cognition. Methods: In

Effects of vitamin D2-fortified bread v. supplementation with vitamin D2 or D3 on serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D metabolites: an 8-week randomised-controlled trial in young adult Finnish women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
There is a need for food-based solutions for preventing vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D3(D3) is mainly used in fortified food products, although the production of vitamin D2(D2) is more cost-effective, and thus may hold opportunities. We investigated the
