Interrelationships among handgrip strength, body composition, physical activity, and quality of life in adults with cystic fibrosis: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background In individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF), lean mass and muscle strength are important predictors of clinical outcomes. This study evaluated associations among body composition, handgrip strength, muscle quality, physical activity, and health‐related quality of life in CF. Methods This observational, cross‐sectional study included 27

A Simple Micromethod for 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Estimation [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 1979
A quick and simple method for estimating 25-hydroxyvitamin D is described. It involves dichloromethane extraction followed by competitive protein-binding assay without chromatography. This assay can be performed on 100 μl of serum and enables 50 samples to be estimated in one working day.

Evidence‐based guideline for clinical practice in the diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention of recurrent wheezing in infants and toddlers in China

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wheezing is a common respiratory symptom in infants and toddlers, and recurrent wheezing is a significant respiratory disorder affecting this age group. Given the multifactorial etiology of recurrent wheezing, clinical practice lacks standardized diagnostic and therapeutic protocols. Recent years have witnessed substantial progress in clinical

Evidence map and gap analysis of metabolic change in pediatric growth hormone deficiency treated with growth hormone

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
This evidence map of 63 studies (n = 6158) showed growth hormone therapy in children with growth hormone deficiency has neutral glucose effects, mixed lipid outcomes, potential benefits for bone mineral density, bone mineral content, and parathyroid hormone, but generally no impact on thyroid function, body composition, or body mass index.

Hypovitaminosis D in acute inpatient cancer rehabilitation: Prevalence, predictors, and practical implications

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hypovitaminosis D is associated with adverse health outcomes, including increased mortality in patients with cancer. Although vitamin D insufficiency (23%–72%) and deficiency (20%–71%) are common among patients admitted to inpatient rehabilitation, their prevalence and predictors in cancer‐specific inpatient rehabilitation ...

Measurement of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Revisited [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 2006
A notable shortcoming of the HPLC method for measuring 25-hydroxyvitamin D described by Lensmeyer et al. (1) is its failure to adequately remove interference by the C3-epimer. Although the authors dismiss this because the interference was less than the lowest limit of quantification, this would not be true in some samples collected from children >1 ...
