Production of 2n Gametes in Diploid Subspecies of Dactylis glomerata L. 2. Occurrence and Frequency of 2n Eggs

Annals of Botany, 1992
Whereas polyploidy has been found in more than half the Gramineae, the occurrence of 2n gametes, a potentially major mechanism of polyploid production, has been rarely studied. In the present work, the frequency of 2n egg production in nine diploid (n = 2x = 14) subspecies of the polyploid complex Dactylis glomerata has been estimated by determining ...

Production of 2n Gametes in Diploid Subspecies of Dactylis glomerata L. 1. Occurrence and Frequency of 2n Pollen

Annals of Botany, 1992
The occurrence of plants producing 2n pollen was ascertained in nine diploid (2n = 2x = 14) subspecies of the polyploid grass complex Dactylis glomerata by determining the ploidy level of the progeny in 100 tetraploid (4X) × diploìd (2X) crosses. The possibility of using pollen size to screen for plants which produce large quantities of 2n pollen was ...

Cytological studies of 2n male gamete formation in sugarcane, Saccharum L.

Euphytica, 2003
The germplasm for modern sugarcane cultivars (Saccharum spp. hybrids) has been derived principally from S. officinarum (2n = 80), and S. spontaneum (2n = 40 to 128). Diploid gamete formation has been significant in developing cultivated sugarcane, but the cytological basis for the processes involved is not clearly understood. This research investigated

The implications of 2n egg gametes in nobilization and breeding of sugarcane

Euphytica, 1985
Nobilization in sugarcane is viewed from a genetic angle considering the significance of 2n gametes. The inbreeding coefficients resulting from 2n gametes, for first and second nobilizations are worked out. The implication of 2n gametes to sugarcane breeding are discussed.

Failure of cytokinesis and 2n gamete formation in Brazilian accessions of Paspalum

Euphytica, 1999
Cytological analysis on 112 Brazilian accessions of Paspalum showed that 52 were affected by failure of first or second cytokinesis during microsporogenesis. When the failure of cytokinesis occurred only in the first division and in the second division the cytokinesis was normal, a dyad of microspores was formed.

[Advances in researches on genetic markers of 2n gametes].

Yi chuan = Hereditas, 2009
2n gametes are the result of meiotic mutation during micro- and mega-sporogenesis that bear the sporophytic rather than the gametophytic chromosome number. This paper reviewed the genetic markers including the morphologic, cytological, isozymes and DNA markers, which have been employed in the generation, inheritance, heterozygosity and marker-assisted ...

[Studies of the meiosis of 2n gamete apomictic wheat grass (Elymus rectisetus)].

Yi chuan xue bao = Acta genetica Sinica, 2001
The formation of polyploid was mainly through the combination of 2n gamete, and the apomixis played an important role in plant evolution and plant breeding. In general, the formation of male gamete and female gamete in apomictic plants are obviously different, i.e., the formation of embryo sac was through apomixis (form into 2n female gamete); however,

Efficiency of potato breeding using FDR 2n gametes for multitrait selection and progeny testing

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1991
The objective of this research was to compare the efficiency of the 4x×2x breeding scheme with the traditional 4x×4x method with respect to potato improvement. The basis for such a comparison was the parental value of four 2x and four 4x male parents from the International Potato Center (CIP) as measured by multitrait selection and progeny testing. The

Genotypic and Environmental Variation in Production of 2n-Gametes in Lilium

1988
The production of 2n-gametes (meiotic polyploidization) occurs in many species, because of irregularities in meiotic division. The frequency of 2n-gametes is naturally extremely low, but can be influenced by environmental conditions like high temperatures and by selecting the most suitable genotypes.
