Amperometric probe for 3-hydroxybutyrate with immobilized 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1988
Abstract The enzyme 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase is immobilized on a graphite electrode suitable for determination of NADH. Of the several procedures tested for the immobilization, direct adsorption on the electrode surface was most satisfactory, with useful lifetimes of up to 3 days.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)-based biopolymer systems

Biochemistry (Moscow) Supplement Series B: Biomedical Chemistry, 2011
Biodegradable biopolymers attract much attention in biology and medicine due to its wide application. The present review considers a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer of bacterial origin, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), which has wide perspectives in medicine and pharmaceutics.

Anaerobic degradation of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate

Biodegradation, 1997
The anaerobic degradation of the polyesters poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) was investigated with special regard to intermediate products, kinetics, and yields. During the degradation of PHBV acetate, propionate, n-butyrate, and n-valerate were detected.

Preparation of alkyl (R)-(−)-3-hydroxybutyrate by acidic alcoholysis of poly-(R)-(−)-3-hydroxybutyrate

Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 2000
An efficient method for the preparation of optically active alkyl (R)-(-)-3-hydroxybutyrates by chemical depolymerization of biopolymer, poly-(R)-(-)-(3-hydroxybutyrate), was established. This method consists of simple recovery of poly-(R)-(-)-(3-hydroxybutyrate) from bacterial cells followed by acidic alcoholysis. When poly-(R)-(-)-(3-hydroxybutyrate)

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) Granule-Associated Proteins:  Impacts on Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) Synthesis and Degradation

Biomacromolecules, 2005
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) represent a group of biopolymers that are synthesized by many bacteria as storage compounds and deposited as insoluble cytoplasmic inclusions. Because they have many putative technical and medical applications, PHAs may play an important role in human life in the future.

Degradation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) by poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) depolymerase from Alcaligenes faecalis T1

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1986
The extracellular poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) depolymerase purified from Alcaligenes faecalis T1 has two disulfide bonds, one of which appears to be necessary for the full enzyme activity. This depolymerase hydrolyzed not only hydrophobic poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) but also water-soluble trimer and larger oligomers of D-(-)-3-hydroxybutyrate, regardless of ...

Phase behavior of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)/poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) blends

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2007
Miscibility, molecular interactions and crystallinity of blends of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-3HV)] were studied in this work. P(3HB)/P(3HB-co-3HV)-6%3HV blends were prepared by casting and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Poly-3-hydroxybutyrate production byAzotobacter chroococcum

Folia Microbiologica, 2001
Thirty-seven soil isolates and mutants of Azotobacter chroococcum tested for poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production using Sudan black B staining method were found to be positive. One mutant showed a higher number of PHB-producing cells and maximum number of granules per cell. Using 2% glucose and 15 mmol/L ammonium acetate, PHB production was found to

Characterization of two 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenases in poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)-degradable bacterium, Ralstonia pickettii T1

Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2006
Two D-(-)-3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) dehydrogenases, BDH1 and BDH2, were isolated and purified from a poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)-degradable bacterium, Ralstonia pickettii T1. BDH1 activity increased in R. pickettii T1 cells grown on several organic acids as a carbon source but not on 3HB, whereas BDH2 activity markedly increased in the same cells grown

Biodegradable Poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) Nanocomposite

Macromolecular Symposia, 2009
AbstractThis work seeks bringing a technological and social contribution by searching blends and composites of poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and polyethylene widely used in packaging films, and colloidal silica. The mixtures were prepared by extrusion using a single‐screw extruder and were analyzed regarding their thermal and mechanical properties and ...
