Flood Frequency Estimation in Northern Sparse Data Regions: Completion Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
The primary objective of this project was to complete development of an arctic hydrologic model and to evaluate its usefulness in generating information useful for a design tool in estimation of peak flow discharges.

Tracer Dispersion in a Self-Organized Critical System

open access: yes, 1996
We have studied experimentally transport properties in a slowly driven granular system which recently was shown to display self-organized criticality [Frette {\em et al., Nature} {\bf 379}, 49 (1996)].

Exercise and Nutrition Prehabilitation Program During Preoperative Chemotherapy Followed by Esophagectomy in Older Patients With Esophageal Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This prospective randomized trial evaluated whether prehabilitation, exercise and nutrition intervention, enhance skeletal muscle mass during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in older patients with esophageal cancer undergoing esophagectomy. We also investigated whether exercise alone was sufficient to increase skeletal muscle mass, and whether nutritional ...

(Poly)Borylated Species as Modern Reactive Groups toward Unusual Synthetic Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this review, we spotlight recent breakthroughs in α‐polyboron‐substituted carbon‐centered intermediates (carbanion, carbocation, radical, and carbene) and polyborylated alkenes. By bridging fundamental reactivity with the application potential of these extraordinary species, we hope this review will serve as a roadmap for harnessing these unique ...

Serum Bile Acids Are Useful Indicators of Intrahepatic Recurrence After Initial Curative Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Bile acids accumulation in hepatocytes causes liver damage and contributes to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the association between serum bile acid levels and postoperative intrahepatic recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma remains unclear.

Host‐Guest Doping Enables Room Temperature Phosphorescence from Triarylboranes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
While pure triarylboranes show RTP in annealed PMMA films, they do not in crystalline form, contrary to our previous report. However, crystalline host‐guest triarylborane systems show persistent afterglow up to 8 s even at 1 ppb guest loading. Computations identify triplet‐triplet energy transfer as the mechanism governing this efficient RTP.

Nationwide Real‐World Modeling of Surgical Outcomes in Elderly Patients: Incorporating Geriatric‐Specific Risk Factors Into Prediction of Mortality and Morbidity

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
A reliable and effective risk prediction model for mortality and morbidity in elderly patients undergoing gastroenterological surgeries was developed and validated. Geriatric‐specific risk factors, including the newly added variables in the NCD registry, along with age, were identified as significant contributors to the model. ABSTRACT Aim As the aging

Annual Report of the 2022 National Clinical Database: Decade‐Long Trends and Current Status of Gastroenterological Surgery in Japan

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim The National Clinical Database (NCD) of Japan is the largest nationwide registry, covering over 95% of surgeries in the country. This 2022 annual report summarizes the short‐term outcomes of gastroenterological surgeries and discusses trends and insights over the past decade.

miR-379-3p inhibits fat grafting survival and angiogenesis by targeting SOCS1-mediated adipose inflammation

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Biotechnology
Background: This research probed the relevant mechanism of miR-379-3p by regulating suppressor of cytokine signaling1 (SOCS1) in the processes of inflammation, oxidative stress, and angiogenesis in fat grafting.

Hydrological Interpretation of Basin Morphology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Completion Report OWRT Agreement No. 14-31-0001-5002 OWRT Project A-049-ALASHydrologic processes in a particular basin are governed by three groups of factors: input regimes of mass and energy, the nature of mass and energy transfer and ...
