Inter-view motion prediction in 3D-HEVC
2014 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2014This paper presents a novel inter-view motion prediction technique used in 3D-HEVC which provides efficient compression for motion vectors. The 3D extension of HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) namely 3D-HEVC is under development in JCT-3V for coding multi-view video and depth data.

3D-HEVC extension for circular camera arrangements
2015 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON), 2015The paper presents an extension of 3D-HEVC for the circular camera arrangements. It generalizes the derivation of the disparity vectors from depth data for sequences captured using cameras located on an arc. The general equation for disparity calculations has been implemented instead of the simplified equation used in 3D-HEVC.

Adaptive Loop Filter Technique for 3D-HEVC Standard
2015 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI), 2015This paper proposes the use of adaptive loop filtering (ALF) technique for 3D-HEVC standard in-loop filtering. This filter uses Wiener -- based method to minimize the Mean Squared Error between filtered pixel and original pixels. Performance of adaptive loop filter in picture based level is evaluated.

Enhancing wedgelet-based depth modeling in 3D-HEVC
2017 Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Summit and Conference (APSIPA ASC), 2017Wedgelet-based Depth Modeling Mode (DMM) in the 3D extension of HEVC (3D-HEVC) divides a depth block into two segments by a straight line, which can hardly approximate well complex edges in depth blocks, and consequently deteriorates coding performance of the depth blocks.

Single depth intra coding mode in 3D-HEVC
2015 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2015As the state-of-the-art video coding standard, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) has been finalized in January 2013. To support the coding of multiple views and associated depth data, the development of the HEVC extension for 3D video coding is also about to be finalized. New coding unit (CU) level coding tools are added to the HEVC design to improve

Multicore Parallelism Exploration Targeting 3D-HEVC Intra-Frame Prediction
IEEE Design & Test, 2020Editor’s note : The usage of multicore architectures for 3D-HEVC intraframe prediction is of great benefit, especially to improve the performance, throughput, and even the energy consumption in systems. Multicore hardware is used in all high-performance image processing applications, and also in mobile devices such as cellphones.

Texture mode dependent depth coding in 3D-HEVC
2013 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2013In 3D-HEVC, depth modeling modes (DMM) are applied for efficient intra depth coding. With DMM modes, a prediction unit is partitioned into two parts, and each part is predicted by a single value. In one DMM mode, the partition pattern is implicitly derived at the decoder by searching all pre-defined Wedgelet patterns on a Co-located Texture Luma Block (

Perceptual Asymmetric Video Coding for 3D-HEVC
2016In the scope of stereoscopic 3D video, asymmetric video coding is an effective method in terms of maintaining the perceived quality while reducing the required transmission bandwidth by exploiting the perceptual phenomenon of binocular suppression. On the other hand, just noticeable distortion (JND) has been applied successfully in improving the video ...

Simplified inter-component depth modeling in 3D-HEVC
IVMSP 2013, 2013In this paper, we present a method to reduce complexity of depth modeling modes (DMM), which is currently used in the 3D-HEVC standardization activity. DMM adds four modes to the existing HEVC intra prediction modes; the main purpose is to accurately represent object edges in depth video. Mode 3 of DMM requires distortion calculation of all pre-defined

Improved LCU level rate control for 3D-HEVC
2016 Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2016In this paper, we propose an improved Largest Coding Unit (LCU) level rate control algorithm for the 3D video coding extension of the high efficiency video coding (3D-HEVC). In the proposed algorithm, bit allocation for extended views is investigated in combination with temporal and inter-view Mean Absolute Difference (MAD) predictions. Upon prediction
