SNR Scalable Extension for 3D-HEVC
2014 Data Compression Conference, 2014In this paper we present a SNR scalable extension design on three-dimensional video compression using High Efficiency Video Coding (3D-HEVC). A multi-loop decoder solution is integrated into the proposed scalable coding serves as the whole framework for the SNR scalable 3D-HEVC.

Backward view synthesis prediction for 3D-HEVC
2013 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2013View synthesis prediction provides an effective way to reduce inter-view redundancy of multiview video in addition to conventional disparity compensated prediction. Traditional forward warping techniques incur high complexity since an entire picture is typically warped from one viewpoint to another.

Advanced residual prediction enhancement for 3D-HEVC
2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo Workshops (ICMEW), 2014Advanced residual prediction (ARP) is an efficient coding tool in 3D extension of HEVC (3D-HEVC) by exploiting the residual correlation between views. In the early version of ARP, when current prediction unit (PU) has a temporal reference picture, a reference block is firstly identified by a disparity vector and the residual predictor is then produced ...

Inter-view motion prediction in 3D-HEVC
2014 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2014This paper presents a novel inter-view motion prediction technique used in 3D-HEVC which provides efficient compression for motion vectors. The 3D extension of HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) namely 3D-HEVC is under development in JCT-3V for coding multi-view video and depth data.

Advanced texture and depth coding in 3D-HEVC
Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, 2018Abstract The 3D extension of High Efficiency Video Coding (3D-HEVC) is a new international video coding standard developed by the Joint Collaborative Team on 3D Video Coding Extensions (JCT-3V) in order to support coding of multiple views and its associated depth data.

3D-HEVC extension for circular camera arrangements
2015 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON), 2015The paper presents an extension of 3D-HEVC for the circular camera arrangements. It generalizes the derivation of the disparity vectors from depth data for sequences captured using cameras located on an arc. The general equation for disparity calculations has been implemented instead of the simplified equation used in 3D-HEVC.

A perceptual preprocess method for 3D-HEVC
SPIE Proceedings, 2015A perceptual preprocessing method for 3D-HEVC coding is proposed in the paper. Firstly we proposed a new JND model, which accounts for luminance contrast masking effect, spatial masking effect, and temporal masking effect, saliency characteristic as well as depth information.

This chapter provides background about Three-Dimensional High Efficiency Video Coding (3D-HEVC) depth map encoding. Initially, the 3D-HEVC encoding structure is defined, relating its frame to a quadtree-like structure. The algorithms used in the intra-frame prediction of depth maps are described in detail, allowing a comparative understanding regarding

Unified wedgelet genenration for depth coding in 3D-HEVC
2014 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2014In 3D-HEVC, bi-partition based modes, i.e., depth modeling modes (DMM), are applied for depth intra coding. With DMM, a depth prediction unit (PU) is partitioned into two parts using a Wedgelet pattern selected from a predefined large Wedgelet set, and the Wedgelet set is generated during both encoder and decoder initialization for each block size ...

Enhancing wedgelet-based depth modeling in 3D-HEVC
2017 Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Summit and Conference (APSIPA ASC), 2017Wedgelet-based Depth Modeling Mode (DMM) in the 3D extension of HEVC (3D-HEVC) divides a depth block into two segments by a straight line, which can hardly approximate well complex edges in depth blocks, and consequently deteriorates coding performance of the depth blocks.
