Improving the Realism of Existing 3D City Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Within the paper, a novel approach for the reconstruction of geometric details of building facades is presented. It is based on 3D point clouds from terrestrial laser scanning. By a segmentation process, the approximate boundaries of the windows are detected and a cell decomposition of the facade is created.

Enriching lower LoD 3D city models with semantic data computed by the voxelisation of BIM sources [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
The role and adoption of 3D city models have been changing from a data endpoint to a centralised data source that is used for a variety of different analyses in different sectors. This change has not yet been fully completed and the transition process is

SPACE PARTITIONING FOR PRIVACY ENABLED 3D CITY MODELS [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
Due to recent technological progress, data capturing and processing of highly detailed (3D) data has become extensive. And despite all prospects of potential uses, data that includes personal living spaces and public buildings can also be considered as a

A REPOSITORY OF INFORMATION VISUALIZATION TECHNIQUES TO SUPPORT THE DESIGN OF 3D VIRTUAL CITY MODELS [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2013
Virtual 3D city models are used for different applications such as urban planning, navigation, pedestrian behaviour, historical information, and disaster management. These applications require rich information models that associate urban objects not only

TOWARDS AUTOMATIC SEMANTIC LABELLING OF 3D CITY MODELS [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
The lack of semantic information in many 3D city models is a considerable limiting factor in their use, as a lot of applications rely on semantics. Such information is not always available, since it is not collected at all times, it might be lost due to ...

Evaluating cooling and energy-saving potential of Vertical Greenery Systems based on 3D City Models: A case study of three cities [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Global cities face escalating urban heat stress and energy demands due to rapid vertical growth and densification. Vertical Greenery Systems (VGS), which mitigate urban heat by providing shading and evapotranspiration, offering a promising nature-based ...

Virtual 3D City Model for Navigation in Urban Areas

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent & Robotic Systems, 2011
In this paper, we propose to study the integration of a new source of a priori information, which is the virtual 3D city model. We study this integration for two tasks: vehicles geo-localization and obstacles detection. A virtual 3D city model is a realistic representation of the evolution environment of a vehicle.

Creating 3D city models of Mexican cities based on open data [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
This paper presents a novel methodology for the automated creation of 3D city models for Mexican cities using exclusively open data. In Mexico, while national topographic and elevation datasets exist, they lack crucial features like individual building ...

Cenergy3: An API for City Energy 3D Modeling

open access: yesCoRR
The efficient management and planning of urban energy systems require integrated three-dimensional (3D) models that accurately represent both consumption nodes and distribution networks. This paper introduces our developed geospatial Application Programming Interface (API) that automates the generation of 3D urban digital model from open data.
