A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Using a 3D finite element forward modeling code to analyze resistive structures with controlled-source electromagnetics in a marine environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Controlled-Source Electromagnetics (CSEM) is a method that has been used since the 1980’s in the marine environment for determining electrical properties of the subsurface.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

3D forward modeling by four way domain decomposition and four way I/O concurrent management with absorbing boundaries implemented on the Cray X-MP/48

open access: yes, 1985
A 3D acoustic wave equation modeling program was designed and implemented on the CRAY X-MP vector processor. Domain decomposition is used to split the problem into two or more concurrent sub-tasks.

Multi-Dimensional Detection Capability Analysis of Surface and Surface-to-Tunnel Transient Electromagnetic Methods Based on the Spectral Element Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The transient electromagnetic (TEM) method is a key detection and monitoring technology for safe coal-mine production. Surface TEM depth penetration is limited by real geological conditions and transmitter–receiver hardware performance. Compared with the

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Direct current electrical resistivity forward modeling using comsol multiphysics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Forward modeling of direct current (DC) resistivity is very important for the inversion of the resistivity data to obtain the true resistivity of the subsurface.
