Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

3D test: no longer a bottleneck! [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
When I joined imec in October 2008 to work on test and design-for-test (DfT) of 3D-stacked integrated circuits (ICs), there were only a few test folks active in that emerging field. Consequently, misconceptions about 3D test were omni-present.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

3D Model Retrieval Based on a 3D Shape Knowledge Graph

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A development of 3D construction technology has led to 3D models being applied in many fields, and the number of 3D models has exploded in recent years. Thus, 3D model retrieval has become a popular topic with many proposed approaches.

Deformable and articulated 3D reconstruction from monocular video sequences

open access: yes, 2012
PhDThis thesis addresses the problem of deformable and articulated structure from motion from monocular uncalibrated video sequences. Structure from motion is defined as the problem of recovering information about the 3D structure of scenes imaged by a

Stereoscopic 3D Technologies for Accurate Depth Tasks: A Theoretical and Empirical Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the last decade an increasing number of application fields, including medicine, geoscience and bio-chemistry, have expressed a need to visualise and interact with data that are inherently three-dimensional.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

3D Beamforming for Improving the Security of UAV-Enabled Mobile Relaying System [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2019
In this paper, we consider an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled mobile relaying system consists of a ground control station (GCS), a high-mobility UAV for relaying, a destination, and an eavesdropper.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...
