A representation for databases of 3D objects
Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, 2007The real world is inherently three dimensional. Therefore it is natural to represent it in 3D. Many application domains such as architecture, urban planning, epidemiology, and virtual reality require representation of objects in three dimensions. These applications require an effective way of querying three dimensional data.

KNOWLEDGE-BASED REPRESENTATION OF 3D MEDIA
International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, 2010In recent years, 3D media have become more and more widespread and have been made available in numerous online repositories. A systematic and formal approach for representing and organizing shape-related information is needed to share 3D media, to communicate the knowledge associated to shape modeling processes and to facilitate its reuse in useful ...

A hybrid approach to 3D representation
1996This paper deals with generic 3D shape modelling for the purposes of object recognition. Common problems with many existing methods are that they either capture insufficient detailed structure or fail to provide sufficiently abstract descriptions (global vs. local representation). As a result, they tend have a limited field of application. The approach

On the Multiscale Representation of 2D and 3D Shapes
Graphical Models and Image Processing, 1999Summary: Binary pyramids in two and three dimensions can be used for multiresolution representation. The ``standard'' OR and AND pyramids have serious drawbacks, as they distort the shape significantly; therefore they can seldom be used effectively.

MPEG 3D Graphics Representation
2011The Tri-Dimensional Graphics (3DG) information coding tools of MPEG-4 are mostly contained in MPEG-4 Part 16, “Animation Framework eXtension (AFX)”, and focus on three important requirements for 3DG applications: compression, streamability and scalability.

Kernel-Based 3D Object Representation
2002In this paper we describe how kernel-based novelty detection can be used effectively to model 3D objects from unconstrained image sequences, in order to deal withob ject identification and recognition. In this framework, we introduce a similarity measure based on the Hausdorff distance, well suited to represent, identify, and recognize 3D objects from ...

Surface representation of 3D object for aerial 3D display
SPIE Proceedings, 2011In this paper, we propose a novel method of representing the complex surface of a 3D object for a new aerial 3D display which can draw dots of light at an arbitrary position in a space. The aerial 3D display that we use in this research can create a dot of light at 50 kHz and can draw dots of light by vector scanning.

Protection of 3D Object Visual Representations
2006 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2006In this paper, we describe a new framework for watermarking 3D objects via their contour information. Unlike most conventional 3D object watermarking techniques, for which both insertion and extraction of the mark are performed on the object itself (3D/3D approach), we propose an asymmetric 3D/2D procedure.

3D object recognition: Representation and matching
Statistics and Computing, 2000Three-dimensional object recognition entails a number of fundamental problems in computer vision: representation of a 3D object, identification of the object from its image, estimation of its position and orientation, and registration of multiple views of the object for automatic model construction.

Symmetry-based representations of 3D data
Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002The usefulness of the 3D medial axis (MA) is dependent on both the availability of accurate and stable methods for computing individual MA points and on schemes for deriving the local structure and connectivity among these points. We review the leading approaches for computing the 3D MA and the different fields of application for this representation of
