Robust design of semi-automated clustering models for 4D-STEM datasets
Materials discovery and design require characterizing material structures at the nanometer and sub-nanometer scale. Four-Dimensional Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (4D-STEM) resolves the crystal structure of materials, but many 4D-STEM data ...

Digit ratio (2D:4D: the relative lengths of the second and fourth digits) is widely used as a correlate of prenatal sex steroids. There are two common methods of measuring 2D:4D, the direct method and the indirect method.

Persistent Wnt/β-catenin signaling determines dorsalization of the postnatal subventricular zone and neural Stem cell specification into oligodendrocytes and glutamatergic neurons [PDF]
In the postnatal and adult central nervous system (CNS), the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the forebrain is the main source of neural stem cells (NSCs) that generate olfactory neurons and oligodendrocytes (OLs), the myelinating cells of the CNS.

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Digit ratio (2D:4D) and gender inequalities across nations
Gender inequality varies across nations, where such inequality is defined as the disproportionate representation of one sex over the other in desirable social, economic, and biological roles (typically male over female).

Activities of the Loja W-STEM node
The 3rd meeting of the W-STEM ERASMUS + Capacity-building in Higher Education European Project (Ref. 598923-EPP-1-2018-1-ES-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) had scheduled to be held in Guadalajara (Mexico). The COVID-19 pandemic did not allow us to meet face-to-face, and

Robust Local Thickness Estimation of Sub‐Micrometer Specimen by 4D‐STEM
Abstract A quantitative four‐dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (4D‐STEM) imaging technique (q4STEM) for local thickness estimation across amorphous specimen such as obtained by focused ion beam (FIB)‐milling of lamellae for (cryo‐)TEM analysis is presented.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
