The use of PCR-RFLP to genetically distinguish the morphologically close species: Ceriodaphnia dubia Richard, 1894 and Ceriodaphnia silvestrii Daday, 1902 (Crustacea Cladocera)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The cladocerans are important components of planktonic and benthic freshwater and good indicators of the trophic state of water bodies. The morphological taxonomy of many species of Cladocera is considered complex with minor differences separating some ...

Dominant yeasts associated to mango (Mangifera indica) and rose apple (Syzygium malaccense) fruit pulps investigated by culture-based methods [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
: The biotechnological potential of yeasts associated to different habitats in Colombia has been poorly studied, especially the yeasts associated with different plant structures.

Alone no more—Integrative taxonomy of New Zealand odd‐clawed spiders challenges the monotypy of Pianoa and Gradungula (Araneae: Gradungulidae)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Taxonomic revision of New Zealand Gradungulidae reveals unexpected northern South Island diversity through integrated molecular phylogenetics and targeted field sampling. Two new species formally described — Gradungula kahurangi sp. nov. and Pianoa civis sp. nov. — with revised male genitalia diagnoses for all three New Zealand genera.

A Reassessment of Phylogenetic Relationships in Class Oligohymenophorea (Protista, Ciliophora) Based on Updated Multigene Data

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Within the ciliate class Oligohymenophorea, many evolutionary relationships among taxa remain unresolved. This study incorporates 97 new sequences from 30 oligohymenophorean populations, including nuclear small subunit ribosomal (SSU‐rRNA) genes, nuclear

A multidimensional platform for the purification of non-coding RNA species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A renewed interest in non-coding RNA (ncRNA) has led to the discovery of novel RNA species and post-transcriptional ribonucleoside modifications, and an emerging appreciation for the role of ncRNA in RNA epigenetics.

Exploring the phylogenetic history of water striders (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) using genome‐skimming

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

Presynaptic Protein Synthesis Is Required for Long-Term Plasticity of GABA Release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Long-term changes of neurotransmitter release are critical for proper brain function. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these changes are poorly understood.

Molecular Identification of the Nematode Eustrongylides ignotus in Mandarin Fish, Siniperca chuatsi

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) is a high‐value economic freshwater fish in China; however, the frequent occurrence of diseases threatens its production. To this end, we explored the impact of a nematode parasite newly found in the abdomen of mandarin fish collected from Pudong, Shanghai, China.

Complete mitochondrial and rDNA complex sequences of important vector species of Biomphalaria, obligatory hosts of the human-infecting blood fluke, Schistosoma mansoni

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Using high throughput Illumina sequencing technology, we determined complete sequences for the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) and nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) complex for three African freshwater snail taxa within the genus Biomphalaria, B. pfeifferi,

Efficient termination of transcription by RNA polymerase I requires the 5 ' exonuclease Rat1 in yeast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
During transcription termination by RNA polymerase II on protein-coding genes, the nuclear 5′ exonuclease Rat1/Xrn2 degrades the nascent transcript downstream from the polyadenylation site and “torpedoes” the polymerase.
