The cladocerans are important components of planktonic and benthic freshwater and good indicators of the trophic state of water bodies. The morphological taxonomy of many species of Cladocera is considered complex with minor differences separating some ...

Taxonomic revision of New Zealand Gradungulidae reveals unexpected northern South Island diversity through integrated molecular phylogenetics and targeted field sampling. Two new species formally described — Gradungula kahurangi sp. nov. and Pianoa civis sp. nov. — with revised male genitalia diagnoses for all three New Zealand genera.

A multidimensional platform for the purification of non-coding RNA species [PDF]
A renewed interest in non-coding RNA (ncRNA) has led to the discovery of novel RNA species and post-transcriptional ribonucleoside modifications, and an emerging appreciation for the role of ncRNA in RNA epigenetics.

Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

Molecular Identification of the Nematode Eustrongylides ignotus in Mandarin Fish, Siniperca chuatsi
ABSTRACT Mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) is a high‐value economic freshwater fish in China; however, the frequent occurrence of diseases threatens its production. To this end, we explored the impact of a nematode parasite newly found in the abdomen of mandarin fish collected from Pudong, Shanghai, China.

Efficient termination of transcription by RNA polymerase I requires the 5 ' exonuclease Rat1 in yeast [PDF]
During transcription termination by RNA polymerase II on protein-coding genes, the nuclear 5′ exonuclease Rat1/Xrn2 degrades the nascent transcript downstream from the polyadenylation site and “torpedoes” the polymerase.
