The unknotted strands of life: knots are very rare in RNA structures [PDF]
The ongoing effort to detect and characterize physical entanglement in biopolymers has so far established that knots are present in many globular proteins and also abound in viral DNA packaged inside bacteriophages. RNA molecules, on the other hand, have not yet been systematically screened for the occurrence of physical knots.

Three stages of nascent protein translocation through the ribosome exit tunnel [PDF]
All proteins in living organisms are produced in ribosomes that facilitate the translation of genetic information into a sequence of amino acid residues. During translation, the ribosome undergoes initiation, elongation, termination, and recycling. In fact, peptide bonds are formed only during the elongation phase, which comprises periodic association ...

Diversity and New Species of Ascomycota from Bamboo in China
Bamboo is an economically important crop that has gained prominence as an alternative to wood to reduce deforestation and ecosystem destruction. Diseases of bamboo that typically occur on leaves and stems can cause significant loss, reducing the quality ...

Six Species of Phyllachora with Three New Taxa on Grass from Sichuan Province, China
Phyllachora (Phyllachoraceae, Phyllachorales) species are parasitic fungi with a wide global distribution, causing tar spots on plants. In this study, we describe three newly discovered species: Phyllachora chongzhouensis, Phyllachora neidongensis, and ...
