Nucleotide sequence relationships between vertebrate 5.8 S ribosomal RNAs

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1977
Nucleotide sequences of the 5.8 S ribosomal RNAs from HeLa cells, Xenopus laevis and chick embryo fibroblasts were compared. Xenopus laevis 5.8 S RNA differs from that of HeLa cells in four internal positions and at the 3' end of the molecule. Chick 5.8 S RNA differs from that of HeLa cells in two positions.

Biotrophic and saprophytic fungi from the Rhodocybe-Clitopilus clade (Entolomataceae): two new species and one new record in subtropical China [PDF]

open access: yesMycoKeys
This study proposes two new species and a new record in the Rhodocybe-Clitopilus clade, based on comprehensive morphological and molecular analyses. The nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer region ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS), the large subunit ribosomal RNA ...

Detection of signal recognition particle (SRP) RNAs in the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) of three lineages of ectomycorrhizal fungi (Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
During a routine scan for Signal Recognition Particle (SRP) RNAs in eukaryotic sequences, we surprisingly found in silico evidence in GenBank for a 265-base long SRP RNA sequence in the ITS1 region of a total of 11 fully identified species in three ...

Widespread association between the ericoid mycorrhizal fungus Rhizoscyphus ericae and a leafy liverwort in the maritime and sub-Antarctic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A recent study identified a fungal isolate from the Antarctic leafy liverwort Cephaloziella varians as the ericoid mycorrhizal associate Rhizoscyphus ericae. However, nothing is known about the wider Antarctic distribution of R. ericae in C. varians, and

Chromosome structure and behaviour in Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Nematoda: Parasitaphelenchidae) germ cells and early embryo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Chromosome structure and behaviour in both meiosis of the germ cells and mitosis of the embryo from fertilisation to the two-cell stage in Bursaphelenchus xylophilus were examined by DAPI staining and three-dimensional reconstruction of serial-section ...

The production and secretion of tRNA-derived RNA fragments in the corn smut fungus Ustilago maydis

open access: yesFrontiers in Fungal Biology, 2022
The biogenesis of small non-coding RNAs is a molecular event that contributes to cellular functions. The basidiomycete fungus Ustilago maydis is a biotrophic pathogen parasitizing maize.

Comprehensive mutational analysis of yeast DEXD/H box RNA helicases involved in large ribosomal subunit biogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
DEXD/H box putative RNA helicases are required for pre-rRNA processing in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, although their exact roles and substrates are unknown.

Molecular reassessment of diaporthalean fungi associated with strawberry, including the leaf blight fungus, Paraphomopsis obscurans gen. et comb. nov. (Melanconiellaceae)

open access: yesIMA Fungus, 2021
Phytopathogenic fungi in the order Diaporthales (Sordariomycetes) cause diseases on numerous economically important crops worldwide. In this study, we reassessed the diaporthalean species associated with prominent diseases of strawberry, namely leaf ...

Inferring population structure and genetic diversity of the invasive alien Nootka lupin in Iceland

open access: yesPolar Research, 2021
Polar and subpolar regions are known for their particular vulnerability and sensitivity to the detrimental effects of non-indigenous species, which is well exemplified by the Nootka lupin (Lupinus nootkatensis) spread in Iceland.
