State Abstinence Education Programs and Teen Fertility in the U.S. [PDF]

open access: yes
Title V, section 510 of the Social Security Act, passed in 1996 and implemented in 1998, appropriates funding to states for the purpose of educating minors on the benefits of abstinence before marriage.

What is Social Capital And Why Does It Matter? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Sparked by the work of Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam, a team of researchers at Harvard University recently conducted a national survey on "social capital," that is, social resources for building healthy societies.

Indirect Band Edge and Chain‐Locked Linear Dichroism in the Quasi‐1D Van der Waals Antiferromagnet AgCrP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
AgCrP2S6 reveals a momentum‐indirect band edge (≈1.35 eV) and chain‐locked linear dichroism: the first direct transitions emerge at 1.6–1.8 eV for E||a. Resonant Raman and photoemission corroborate this assignment. In ACPS/graphene heterostructures, photocurrent turns on above ≈1.5 eV and follows the same polarization selection rules (anisotropy ≈0.53),

High Energy Density Asymmetric Aqueous Supercapacitor Based on a 2D Manganese Carbide as a Positive Electrode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A circular route, involving upcycling of waste surgical masks, affords a Mn‐based layered carbide with porosity, redox activity and low work function. These features enable its effective operation as positive supercapacitor electrode in an aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor delivering 213 Wh L−1 energy density.

Reference dietary patterns in Portugal: Mediterranean diet vs Atlantic diet

open access: yesOpen Agriculture
Portugal is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Thus, the dietary patterns in Portugal include both the Mediterranean diet (MD) and the Atlantic diet (AD).

Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence in Phase‐Separated Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A supramolecular, phase‐separation driven strategy yields charge transfer (CT) complexes from alternating electron‐deficient pyromellitic diimide and electron‐rich 4,5‐dibromoveratrole. The resulting CT complexes self‐assemble into lamellar nanosheets with nanometer‐sized domains that exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) at room ...

Laser Engineering of HfN‐Based Nanoparticles for Safe NIR‐I Photothermal and X‐ray Enhancing Cancer Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we produced HfN‐based nanoparticles via femtosecond laser ablation in acetone. The nanoparticles exhibit a red‐shifted plasmonic resonance in the NIR‐I window, colloidal stability after coating with polyethyleneglycol, and excellent biocompatibility. The photothermal and X‐ray sensitization therapeutic effects were demonstrated for tumor
