Phytase activity inCryptococcus laurentiiABO 510 [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Yeast Research, 2007
Ten Cryptococcus strains were screened for phytase activity, of which the Cryptococcus laurentii ABO 510 strain showed the highest level of activity. The cell wall-associated enzyme displayed temperature and pH optima of 62 degrees C and 5.0, respectively.

Multimode Adaptive Thermoregulation Enabled by Shape Morphing and Radiative Cooling Porous Polyurethane

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐morphing, porous polyurethane film combines passive radiative cooling with folding to deliver multilevel heating‐and‐cooling control. High solar reflectance and midinfrared emissivity keep surfaces up to 3.5 °C cooler in direct sunlight, while photothermal triggering folds the film to absorb solar heat.

Efficient and Scalable Radiative Cooling for Photovoltaics Using Solution‐Processable and Solar‐Transparent Mesoporous Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graded refractive index (GRI) structures are prepared from the layer‐by‐layer spray coating of the mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles, showing high solar transparency and thermal emissivity. Under outdoor conditions, after 50 days, the GRI‐coated photovoltaics show on average 6.65 ± 1.48 °C lower than that of the non‐coated references, maintaining 80.9 ± 8 ...

Raf Activation Is Regulated by Tyrosine 510 Phosphorylation in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2008
The proto-oncoprotein Raf is pivotal for mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling, and its aberrant activation has been implicated in multiple human cancers. However, the precise molecular mechanism of Raf activation, especially for B-Raf, remains unresolved.

Achieving Large and Anisotropic Spin‐Mediated Thermal Transport in Textured Quantum Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
An advanced solvent‐cast cold pressing method is developed to synthesize highly textured quantum magnets. By aligning spin chains in Ca2CuO3 perpendicular to the pressing direction, a spin‐mediated thermal conductivity of 10 ± 1 W m⁻¹ K⁻¹ is achieved, the highest reported for polycrystalline quantum materials.

Engineering the Hierarchical Porosity of Granular Hydrogel Scaffolds Using Porous Microgels to Improve Cell Recruitment and Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By fabricating and covalently assembling gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) porous microgels, a new class of granular hydrogel scaffolds with hierarchical porosity is developed. These scaffolds have a significantly higher void fraction than their counterparts made up of nonporous microgels, enhancing cell recruitment and tissue integration. This research may
