Niclosamide and its derivative DK‐520 inhibit RANKL‐induced osteoclastogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2020
Niclosamide is a potent inhibitor of osteoclastogenesis and bone remodeling. DK‐520 is an acyl derivative of Niclosamide and significantly increased both the plasma concentration and the duration of exposure of Niclosamide when dosed orally.

The subcellular distribution of phosphorylated Y‐box‐binding protein‐1 at S102 in colorectal cancer patients, stratified by KRAS mutational status and clinicopathological features

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies nuclear YB‐1 S102 phosphorylation as a marker associated with KRAS and FBXW7 mutations in colorectal cancer. Mutated KRAS correlates specifically with nuclear, not cytoplasmic, S102 YB‐1. These findings provide the first ex vivo evidence of this link in CRC and suggest future studies should assess the prognostic and therapeutic ...

Problem-Solving Exercise for Undergraduate Students Involving the Japanese Fermented Food Natto

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology & Biology Education, 2019
Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans fermented by Bacillus subtilis natto. Because natto is high in protein and contains healthful bacteria, dieticians and producers have campaigned for higher consumption of natto in areas such as ...

New High Resolution Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometer Capable of Measurements of Collision Cross Sections from 150 to 520 K.

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2016
We present a new variable temperature (VT), high resolution ion mobility (IM) drift tube coupled to a commercial mass spectrometer (MS). Ions are generated in an electrospray ion source with a sampling cone interface and two stacked ring RF guides which ...

Targeting carbonic anhydrase IX/XII prevents the anti‐ferroptotic effect of stromal lactic acid in prostate carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In prostate carcinoma, lactic acid, secreted by highly glycolytic cancer‐associated fibroblasts, is imported into tumor cells through the MCT1 transporter and prevents RSL3 and erastin‐induced ferroptosis (A). Targeting of carbonic anhydrase IX/XII, the main extracellular pH regulators, in tumor and stromal cells reduces microenvironmental acidosis and

Re‐evaluation of aluminium sulphates (E 520–523) and sodium aluminium phosphate (E 541) as food additives

open access: yesEFSA journal. European Food Safety Authority, 2018
The Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient Sources added to Food (ANS) provided a scientific opinion re‐evaluating the safety of aluminium sulphates (E 520–523) and sodium aluminium phosphate, acidic (E 541) as food additives.

Downregulation of O‐GlcNAcylation enhances etoposide‐induced p53‐mediated apoptosis in HepG2 human liver cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor, reduces O‐GlcNAcylation in HepG2 liver cancer cells. Further inhibition of O‐GlcNAc transferase by OSMI‐1 enhanced etoposide‐induced apoptosis, lowering the IC50 for viability and increasing the EC50 for cytotoxicity.

Measurement of the e+e- -> pi+pi- cross section with the CMD-2 detector in the 370-520 MeV c.m. energy range [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The cross section of the process e+e- -> pi+pi- has been measured at the CMD-2 detector in the 370-520 MeV center-of-mass (c.m.) energy range. A systematic uncertainty of the measurement is 0.7 %.

Hsa_circ_0088212-mediated miR-520 h/APOA1 axis inhibits osteosarcoma progression

open access: yesTranslational Oncology, 2021
Background: It has been known for decades that circRNAs are deregulated in cancer. Here, we characterized the role and underlying mechanism of circ_0088212 in osteosarcoma.
